Another "Is it Audiophile" Question

I have a 2007 Super Crew Lariat with the 6cd changer. It will handle MP3 discs, has a line in for an ipod (or other source, I guess) and has Sirius. Does this mean it's an audiophile head and I can wire a sub with little or no hassle?

Or am I looking at an amp/sub combo.

I'm not looking to spend the cash to upgrade the head unit, but if I can add a sub relatively cheaply and easily, I'd like to.

The sub would be in an enclosure under the rear seat, drivers side (well, drivers side for the Scabs, not 100% sure about Screws).

It has to have three jacks/ports in the back of the HU. If not, then it's not the Audiophile. I know this as I recently swapped out mine. I had the same radio as you had described and wanted the sub. I purchased the OEM sub only to find out that the wiring harness was under the seat, however, the sub port was not on the HU. Also, the Audiophile set-up includes tweeters in the doors. If you don't have tweeters in the door, then you will not have to pull the HU to know that you don't have the Audiophile. I picked up an OEM Audiophile on ebay and purchased 4 Polk two-speakers, two Polk tweeters w/cross-overs, and built my own Audiophile system that looks OEM but sounds better. BTW, I sold my original radio ebay and almost broke even on the radios. I paid $100 for the OEM sub(ebay) and $150 for the speakers at Crutchfield.

Not true. The 2004 audiophile some had 2 on back.

Then my 2007 did not have audiophile and had 3 on back. NOT TRUE. Plus mine was already prewired because ford does that for ease. But still not audiophile.

I'm not sure about the plugs on the back, but I have no subwoofer and no wiring.

So, I'm not thrilled with the overall sound of my system, but I don't need to Rockford Fosgate 12s kicking in the back either. I'd like to upgrade the speakers and get better bass response and warmer overall tone. Right now it is very clear, but almost "clinical" sounding.

80% of what I listen to is acoustic music, 10% is country and the other 10% is that 80s crap my wife listens too when she is in the truck . So, waht speakers would you suggest? I don't want to change the head unit or spend $1k on a system.

I went through this very same situation. I tried to go the factory sub route, only to discover I did not have the correct radio. I had a Precision Power Amp from a previous install just sitting there. Took it and the truck to a local shop to let them handle the installation. I bought 1 Memphis 10 inch sub and a box that fits under the drivers side back seat. They installed a control **** under the dash to control the amount of bass. After some tweaks with the bass and treble controls I have a damn good sounding system, for what is basically factory. Just the addition of that sub really rounds out the factory system to very acceptable level.

All I know is for factory ........ the Audiophile KICKS *** and is worth every penny. My buddy Matt (Tardman 91) has an aftermarket setup and it has some more thump to it, but add in labor and aftermarket cost..... and I become even more pleased with it
