Alpine 9885 installed

Well, I got an Alpine 9885 installed the other day and so far I love this thing. It's so nice to be able to listen to my Ipod in the truck and better yet to be able to control the thing with the headunit. This is great. Anybody else have one of these?

My only other question is how do you dim this thing? I have it set on auto and it dims slightly when the lights come on but not enough. If you set it to manual I can't figure how to adjust it. I read the manual but it says nothing about manually adjusting the dimmer.

I tried using my dimmer for the truck but it didn't do anything. I'm wondering if they forgot to connect something.

i just installed the 9883 in my truck. the buttons on these units are very bright. i will read my manual today and see if i can figure it out. the only thing i dont like is that the buttons can only be blue. i was thinking they were going to be like previous units where you could change them to green or red. by the way did you have to buy the kc422 i think it is cable to control the ipod.

Yes you need to buy the cable. The 9885 buttons change to blue or red. But only the 6 buttons to the right of the volume **** change.

wow i never found where to change the colors on mine. might be a 9885 thing. and i believe that when it is in manual mode for the dimmer you have to adjustthe contrast where you want it and it stays at that setting.

Again, I love this unit but boy is it bright. If you set the dimming to auto it does dim from normal bright but not enough IMO at night. Oddly enough the manual says nothing about "manual" adjusting of the brightness. It just says for auto dim set to auto.

As for trying to change the color....hold down the buttom just to the left of the number 1 preset as shown in the picture. Once that pops up go to "General" or "Dipslay" I can't remember which and then go to Illumination. You should be able to choose from 1 of two settings of color, at least with the 9885.

I will also say this head unit has made me feel as though I installed new speakers. Now that they have some power going to them they sound a lot better than they did with the factory head unit. I've been impressed. I still may get new speakers down the line but getting the new head unit has pushed that farther down the road because they sound so much better now.
