mp3 capable head unit

Would a 2005 or up mp3 capable headunit work in a 2004 f150? Would it plug right in? Is an adapter kit needed? Would the mp3 feature work? The 2004 currently has the basic 1 disc player.

Why not buy an aftermarket radio for less money and more power?

I prefer the simple look of the factory unit. I was thinking of purchasing a take-out oem unit via ebay but want to know if it will work before spending the money.
