Factory Upgrade
Factory Upgrade
Hey Guys -
I'm new to the board and have a couple of audio questions. I have a plain-jane '97 F150 with an AM/FM head unit (obviously without premium sound). Actually, it' my dad's truck. We share it and my GMC.
Anyways, to the point. I'm tired of not having a CD player and I've aquired a single CD factory head unit (F87F-18C815-CA) from a new F150 (same generation). Now I've been doing my research and I know the wiring harnesses are different and from what I've been able to tell, all CD-players were apart of the premium sound system that included an amplifier.
From what I can tell, no one on this board seems to like to remove, let alone install, a factory amplifier because of the hassles associated with it. That being said, is there an easy way, or is it even possible to simply "adapt" one wiring harness to the other and use the factory CD-player without an amplifier.
Now, I'm also not afraid to jump in and take the dash apart if someone can give my a little guidance on where and what it would take to install a factory amp and basically convert the system to premium sound.
Thanks for the time and help. - Stone
