What do you have to "drill & solder"?

quick soldering of the wiring harness, adding a rear view camera and pac 7 bypass then drilling the metra kit so it sits flush

*edit* Unless theres a way I dont have to solder! Its been a while since I've done any of that, Last time i've done that was when I was screwing around with RC cars

I use bullet connectors for the wiring harness. That way, you can just unsnap the connectors when and if you need to change something.

Thanks for that dconder, I'll be picking up a few bullet connecters later today than. Hopefully pictures will be up soon.

Captain Morgan8
I paid $816 for mine after taxes at Bestbuy, just grabbed an AD online, brought it in and they matched the price. I probably could have gotten it cheaper elsewhere but I'm impatient and wanted it now!
*edit*
I myself purchased a metra kit, according to brypink and a few others this kit is required for the W200 to sit flush. Wiring harness is also required as well as some bullet connecters *cheers dconder*.

I just finished installing it yesterday, unfortunately my camera took a crap but fear not! I need to reopen it to add in the rear view, pac 7...etc.

Dconder, I had a problem putting the metra kit in, the back spacers? slats? whatever, did not allow me to just set the HU in easily. I had to kind of put it in at an angle and than shove its way in. Second I couldn’t find the parking brake / foot brake LEAD so my video is dead. I figure that wont be a problem when the pac 7 comes in.

For someone who never installed a HU before, it was pretty simple! Like I said when I get the other parts in, I'll be taking it out again, that’s when I'll take pictures!

I'm not sure how d hooked his parking wiring up but I connected mine to one of the wires on the cigarette lighter. I think it was green but there are only 3 wires there and one is black which is ground, and the other I think is the one that actually powers the . My Kenwood works just fine on that wire. At night I just have to adjust the dash lights to be a bit dimmer for the headunit to work.

Good to know Impact! Thanks bossman I'll give that a try when the other goodies get here.

Offtopic, anyone know an amp which will power Rainbow SLC 6.5's comps properly?

Thanks!

To answer the amp question. I am running mine on a US Amps MD22. It puts out about 200W a channel and they sound great. There is a guy on the caraudio.com site that is pushing his with 320W and claims that they handle them well. I know how loud mine are running at 200, I can't imagine what his sound like.

They are great speakers. Great choice. If you get em, seal the doors! It's worth it. We did a buddy's truck last weekend and I am doing mine this weekend. We used Damplifier in both applications.

Hope this helps. Good luck with the install.

Dave

Ordered some damping the other night, waiting for it to arrive. Never done anything of this sort so it should be... interesting? To say the least. Once I get my camera up and running again I'll be taking some pictures, step by step so nobody else has to go through the pain I did.

BTW anyone else have the problem with the metra kit and the W200? Those back tabs got stuck and I had to shove them in real good, Its going to be quite a pain to take them out. Could I just snap them off? Thanks again guys, this forum is a blessing and a curse.

been waiting for your pics, I plan on going out and buying the W200 also, is there any other threads that shows pics step by step, all the pics I'm finding are of just the head unit in the dash

I live in NH, is there anyone on here that installs stereo's near me, I can save over $300 buying the stereo on ebay, if I could find someone to install it, even though I've installed many stereo's I'm debating on installing this, not really sure how you bypass the video playing while the brake isn't on either

Sorry puckoach, I've been really busy it being midterms week and all!
Unfortunately I know I wont be able to get any pictures up until tuesday at the earliest.

To bypass the video you can just buy a pac- tr7 bypass and connect it like you would the wiring harness. Simple straightforward, no worries. I had a guy at a stereo installation shop take a look at my installation says everything was legitimate. However instead of just examining my install he was nice enough to install a modulator for free! (does the same thing as a bypass)

So if you need a pac 7 I have an extra. Dont want to break any forum rules but shoot me an email and we could work something out!

By the way this was my first ever headunit installation and it went smooth as pie. I dont think you'll have any trouble yourself, just dedicate a good day to it just to make sure you get things right. Good luck on the install!
