98 radio installation kit

Can anyone offer advice of a good brand of aftermarket radio in-dash installation kit? I purchased a scosche brand (short pocket) from best buy this weekend for my 98-f-150 and found that the mounting tabs on the top of the plastic unit (pocket side) interfered with the sheet metal bracket that supports the back of the head unit. All the rest of the kits I found this weekend had a long pocket which I don't think will work due to this metal bracket. How do people get a good looking kit for a 98? Do you cut out the bracket? If so, how do you support the back end of the head unit.
