just bought a 2005 F-150 with a single disc. Can I buy an in dash 6 disc and plug and play or will it require some additional wiring or dash modificaion?

I believe a 6 disk head unit from the same year would be plug and play, unless you want to put in the rear seat entertainment system. That requires an additional wiring harness and a particular 6 disk head unit.

It should be plug-n-play. The "basic" wiring harness for the F-150 is the same in all 2003+ models. There are additional connectors required for the Audiophile or the DVD Entertainment system. For the DVD system, you'll need a head unit with an AUX input.

Some guys have been bit on ebay buying F-150 "compatable" head units that came from a passenger car like a Mustang. While the connectors on these units may be the same, they often will not work in an F-150. The F-150 head units are plug-n-play, but many passenger car head units have to have a cpu down load before being removed (and subsequent up-load after being installed).
