6 disc CD/MP3
6 disc CD/MP3
I have an '04 with a 6 disc CD audiophile head unit. I would like to put in a newer version of the same that is MP3 compatible. Anybody have one that they want to sell? How does the MP3 connect? The stock head unit has the "AUX" button, and I have no idea what the hell that is for. I am staying with the stock head unit just because I really like the steering wheel controls and don't want to lose that feature.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

The MP3 compatible head units will play mp3 cds as well as normal audio cds. They do not have provisions for hooking an mp3 player or ipod to them. You need a PIE unit FRD04Aux which connects into the 16 pin slot on the rear of the head unit essentially giving you two RCA inputs. Cost about $70 to $100 depending on the source.
FWIW - I was able to put 13 cds worth of music onto 1 mp3 formatted cd. The MP3 format is about 12% the size of the straight audio format. The Ipod foramt AAC is about 10% the original size, but you can't burn an AAC CD.
Hope that helps.

I have a 2004 FX4 with the stock 6 disc cd player with no Mp3. Mine isnt the audiophile either. Will the stock 6 disc mp3 player work as a replacement? I have seen a few on ebay. Let me know

Any secret on burning MP3 files? New '06 with 6cd/mp3 gives me a "disc error" when I load my mp3 cd. My cd contains about 10 folders with mp3 files in main folders. Can I use folders, or do I have to burn individual files only? Thanks.
F150BUM - I had this problem when I recorded the cd's with my Dell's newer dual layer DVD/CD recordable drive. The CD's were unreadable in the Ford Visteon player with the same error you're seeing. I plugged in an external older Sony drive that could not record dual layer, but just single layer DVD's/CD's and my F-150 had no problem reading the disks created on this drive.
I believe it does support folders. From F150 2006 owner's manual :
Track/Folder Mode: Available only on MP3 discs in CD mode. In Track
Mode, pressing SEEK will scroll through all tracks on the disc.
In Folder mode, pressing SEEK will scroll only through tracks
within the selected folder.

Why do you think you will lose your steering wheel controls? I put in this Eclipse AVN6600 and my steering controls work. https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?num=11185.
iPod, MP3, DVD movie player, Sirius satellite radio. other options available are HD radio and a TV tuner.
