Factory Head Unit - Should I replace it?

I'm not looking to make any significant changes, but I would like to upgrade the overall sound quality in my 2006 SuperCab. I am going to replace the speakers and I'd like to keep the factory head unit. Is this worth doing, or if I am going to replace the speakers, should I replace the head unit as well. As you can tell, I'm pretty green at this!

well I changed all the speakers added amps and subs and still retained the stock deck I did not want to change the stock deck due to the fact that its tied into my reverse sensors and I havent seen to many decks that look right in the dash I am happy with the way my system sounds

I just got through installing my new Alpine unit. So far, I love it. Not exactly sure what you're talking about with the back up sensors being tied into the radio. I have back up sensors on my 06 SuperCrew & mine work just fine. Just tried them out with a bicycle after I read what you posted. Here's a pic of my install.

I would start with a new head unit, the improvement is amazing with just a new head unit.

No, leave the stock head, If you want to add compnent speakers (i.e replace door speakers), get a low wattage amp, around 150 watts... you can get a LOC converter for pre-outs to run the amp[s].. any audio dealer will know to do this, LOC converter is like 15-20 bucks.. thats what I did. Stock is just nicer looking, and not as flashy to a theif.

HI, I'm new here and I saw on a wiring diagram somewhere (can't find it now lol) that there is a connection between the factory backup sensors and the radio on '06 F-150's.

I was just about to install my panasonic mp3 player/cd when I discovered this and was looking around to see if there was any way to connect the sensors to the new head unit. The sounds from the backup sensors do come through the factory stereo.

Well, seems like I answered my own question by going out and having someone stand behind my truck lol. The beeps don't come through the stereo, that one wire must be the mute that is being discussed in another forum......

Do you have factory backup sensors or aftermarket ones?
