Loading with MP3?
Well the only thing I can think of is you might have formatted the CD wrong. I usually load MP3 files to a CD as Data files, unlike a regular CD that you would load as audio files. The only other thing I can think of is to take the CD that takes a min to switch songs and load it into a friends deck and see what happens. If it works fine on the other CD player then there might be a problem in your HU.
Something is wrong. I have had the Kenwood 525 and 622 and while it takes about ten seconds when you first load an MP3 disk in either of these, after that they handle MP3's at least as good as regular CDs. I can jump through them in a split second, fast forward through them, fast back through them.
And they sound better in the Kenwood than in any other head units I have tried.
Maybe you are ripping them with a defective program? Or have some bad disks?

Don't know why, but of the hundreds of brands in dozens of burners I have used myself, Memorex is the only one that consistently caused troubles. Cheap silver bulk disks beat it most tests.
As I say, I do not know why, but I know dozens of my clients had the same poor experience. Their tapes, etc. are great. Something weird in the disks though.
Also, on any disk intended for car use, do not burn at maximum. 4 speed gets you better results. I won't go into technical reasons but two minutes of search can explain it.
Also, No stand alone CD player is designed to go over 74 minutes, or 650 Meg.
Never burn over that amount on an MP3 or standard disk for car use. The last 50 Meg or 8 minutes is more a loophole in a design flaw. Non computer readers are never designed to use that 'extra' space.
