new stereo system
hello fellow f150 owners.I just would your opinions on a system I'm puttin together.Hu,kenwood dpx-501,front door speakers kenwood kfc-p507 component ,rear kenwoods exceleron kfc-x680 for 659.00.Crutchfield is offering 75.00 off if you also get a kenwood amp. Should I get the amp, maybe different speakers? If you all could give some advice I would greatly appreciated.THanks.:
Your output will be 22 watts which isn't that much. However, you don't mention a subwoofer so i'm assuming you are doing this to get nice clean sound and not loads of volume and base. I'd skip the amp if thats the case. Otherwise if you were doing subs get the amp...or two amps for that matter. But for nice clean sound you shouldn't need anymore volume than you got on the dpx.
I would support your decision to purchase an amp. Components just don't quite make the cut when running off the deck! I would just run 2 pairs of 16 guage speaker wires from the amp to the wiring harness in the dash, connect to the 4 speakers there.
Some may say to run speaker wires to each speaker -it's better... It is, but you need to be an oscilliscope to see it - especially at 40 watts per channel. It's not worth the extra labor in my opinion. Just do a good job connecting the wires with proper connectors. Heavier guage wiring is for primarily current carrying capabilities, here the amplifier also boosts the voltage which makes the propegation of electricity much more efficient.
