audiophile head unit upgrade

im going to replace the head unit in my 06 with the audiophile system ( sub under back seat ) with my alpine head unit.. my question is.. i got the wiring harness that supposedly i need to keep the amp and subwoofer. but im confused as to how do i hook it up?

it has 2 amp turn on leads and one set of rca connectors on it.

I havent had the chance to pull the oem head unit yet to see behind the dash.. i dont want to fry a 500 dollar alpine doing this..

Any insite and assistance would be appreciated

If you did get the correct connectors (there should be two), you should have one large one that connects to the main harness (four speakers, power, ground, VSS etc), and a smaller one for the sub harness. This Metra harness should work

It looks like all you need to to do is connect the + and - on the sub connector, and whatever you need on the main harness. If you did not get this kit, and only got the big connector, you may want to go get the correct kit, or you could split the + and - into an RCA connector yourself, put + in the middle.

It seems odd that there are only two wires coming from that connector, you need to connect + and - and the remote turn on, you may want to ask whoever sold you the kit.

If you want to sell the Audiophile head unit let me know. Drop me a message here and we can figure out how we can make that happen.

Make sure you lock the system for shipping.

thats the kit i purchased, but in pulling the radio out. there are 3 connectors going into it, 2 of them match the 70-5521 kit, but there is a 3rd connector about 3/4 of the size of the larger one.

any idea what this 3rd connector is for? what am i going to loose?

That's for the DVD player, and it talks to the head unit via the CAN protocol, no aftermarket head units use this protocol, you will not be able to make it work. Honestly, I don't know why you don't just either keep it all stock, or rip it all out and go completely aftermarket. Unless you need the ultimate system in a truck, possibly the worst environment for accurate sound reproduction, I would stay stock, the audiophile is a pretty decent system.

By the way, many retailers say that kit fits our trucks, but not according to Metra.

Your truck is listed as a 2004 XLT, which did not have an audiophile available, which model do you have?

Sorry.. gotta update the profile.. i just traded the 04 in for an 06 lariat screw.

Was beginning to have a few problems with the 04 that i wasnt happy with and that Ford just couldnt seem to nail down. I was spending more time at the dealer and enterprise with loaners and late days to work than it was worth.

Yes this is the 06 with the Audiophile system.

If you go ahead with the aftermarket HU, I need to correct my first post, the two RCA connectors will plug into your HU, preamp outs, and the remaining two wires are for the shield and the remote turn on, you can probably ignore ths hield wire, use the diagram below for the remote
