yeah, it should work fine. do you need one? I have a single disc and a 6-disc with mp3 layin' around that i'd be interested in letting go.

NO a 2005 stock head unit is a 2and1/2 din size radio a 2004 heritage edition only has a 2din opening.

Well you're correct, but a 1/2 DIN off. New body style trucks are double DIN - Heritage and earlier are 1 1/2 DIN. But who's counting anyway.

It might be possible to squeeze a new style in a heritage, but I can only assume there would be some dash modding involved.

I can confirm that the new body 2004-2006 is double din exactly. I have put five different ones in my truck, ranging from 2004-2006 and ran with three different two single din combos. So double din for sure. The earlier ones look like Din and a half, but I have never installed one. I notice the wiring harness is way different, just from looking at them.

Expedition H/W Variable DC Voltage Double Din 6 Button
Explorer H/W Can Double Din 1/2 6 Button
Explorer Sport Trak H/W Variable DC Voltage Double Din
F-150 H/W Variable DC Voltage Double Din 1/2 6 Button
F-250 H/W Variable DC Voltage Double Din 1/2
not to sound like an expert but here is part of the factory ford radio spreadsheet, the expedition and explorersporttrak are the same radio as the heritage and still fit a double din radio such as the eclipse nav, those are true double dins the new radio's are actually a doubleand1/2 thats why you need a dash kit to fill the upper and lower gaps. So judesson you need to find a radio from an older f150 or expedition or ranger or eplrspttrak.

That was news to me, everything I read and used were marked double din.

You are into this much more than I am, so I bow to your superior knowledge.

I checked and can't find anything listed as double din and a half, but then leave it to Ford to build a non standard item.

For reference, the two head units I have here on the desk are 2004 6 changer and 2006 MP3 single. The bodies of both are 4.5 inches thick. So that exceeds the 'standard' double din by 1/2 an inch. I know you can mount two single din units and they just barely slip in, but the faceplate on each of these OEM units has a big rim around them. If you had a 5 inch unit I don't think it would fit. Not that I've ever seen a five inch thick headunit. That would be a big honking head unit.
