Remote starter + horn = no radio?
Remote starter + horn = no radio?
Hi, all. I couldn't find an answer to this searching the board. This is a weird one.
I did a partial install on a Astroflex 2205 remote starter this weekend. I connected all the starting circuits and the horn wire before I needed to wrap it up for the time being. On my way home, I turned on my radio (stock HU), and got lights but no sound. On further investigation, I discovered that the audio worked with the ignition on, but cut out a fraction of a second after starting the truck.
I looked up the wiring diagrams on http://www.motorcraftservice.com and found out that the horn is also tied into the ECM and the radio on the low-side of the horn switch ?!?!???!!
To check it out, I disconnected the wire from the remote starter, and the radio worked fine. Well, actually now the audio cuts out intermitantly.
Anybody know:
1). What caused this?
2). Did I possibly damage the HU permanently by putting a +12V signal to that input on the stereo? There shouldn't have been any voltage from the starter on that wire.
3). Do you think that the problem will be solved by completing the installation of the starter?
By the way, the wire that I tied the starter's horn wire (negative output) to was the blue wire on the high side of the horn switch. (just as the info from Astrostart and bulldogsecurity.com said).
Anyway, any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
