Headunit overheating?

I know this is a F150 forum, but I need some suggestions. I installed two JL audio 10" subs and a 400W JL amp in my nephew's ranger. We used a LOC and ran the setup off the OEM headunit. It worked well and sounded great for about a month. Now the headunit will cut out periodically and when you remove the CD it is hot. What could be causing this?

The CD being hot is normal. Check your connections.

If you're piggy backing on the HU power circuit, you may be drawing too much current for both to run at once (fuse often does not blow). It's kind of a "brown out" on that circuit.

I do believe that could be the problem. How should I go about correcting this? Should I use a bigger fuse or try to power up the amp from a different fuse? Thanks for your help.
