Could some pictures of new head units be posted here? I'd like to see what a new head unit would look like in the dash. Thanks

Thanks smoke....

I'm not that familiar with the new F150 interior. I take it that you have installed an aftermarket head unit? And it is that large thing in the top center of the dash? If so, which one did you install? And how well did it fit?

The reason I was asking for some pictures, is that whenever I look at some head units from Crutchfield, they don't look like they would fit quite right in my truck. I've also read the reviews from people on the Crutchfield site, and one guy says it works really well in his F150, and later a guy with a Dodge says it works well in his truck and they're talking about the same head unit! So, just how well do these in-dash units fit? Or am I missing something?

almost any aftermarket deck will fit in your truck, as well as the dodges' you just need to use a mounting kit which is sold to the make/model/year...

I see said the blind man. What is that above the head unit? A filler or is that an open area? Storage area? Part of the mounting kit? Can't quite make it out.

It's an enclosed pocket, barely shallow enough to fully store my wallet. It is part of a 15 dollar 1 piece kit I purchased from bestbuy - they probably cost closer to $20 these days... I don't even remember if it was a metra or a scosche, probably a scosche.

I haven't figured out how to post pics here but if you post an email address I'll send you pics of a Pioneer unit in my 97. It looks better than I thought it would.

Those adapter kits are ugly as hell. I'd rather have a double din deck without unsightly pocket to use as a tampon holder.

Not my favorite either.. I plan on just saving money for an Eclipse AVN deck because I can't stand how the single DIN kits look..

My truck is too old to spend that kinda money on. It's time the auto manufacturers start puting real units in their vehicles that offer what the aftermarket companies do.

If you've gone through menopause it shouldn't make any difference.

I just installed an Alpine 9851 with the free Crutchfield mounting and it turned out pretty well:

I tried all of the various combinations of cage, no-cage, factory (Alpine) trim and mounting bracket trim - what looked best for me was to not use the cage or the factory trim.

I attached the ISO single brackets to the sides of the radio, slid that into the mounting bracket and used the trim included with the mounting bracket.

The storage pocket - which some people hate - worked out well. I ran the ipod cable from the adaptor into it and my ipod fits perfectly...
