Bridging factory HU
Bridging factory HU
I asssume that all the OEM HUs are the same and provide 4 speaker high level outputs. Anyone know if these can be bridged??
I've got a reg cab so am only using two spekaers and would like to upgrade the power and the spekaers but keep the factory HU.

Check and see if your HU has FADE control. If so, it'll have two (front & rear) channels.
You can bridge the output. The only obstacle is that the factory wiring harness probably does not have wires/pins going to the rear channel on the HU.
Back in the 70's & 80's, we'd just solder a "run" between the channels on the HU connector to bridge them. No need to run an amp... you'll get the extra power you were looking for.

I'd be a little hesitant to bridge it as well, I can't speak from experience here, nor would I have the funds to attempt it but... Aftermarket decks are not made to be bridged - except pioneer(rear outputs) for a small sub, why would a factory deck be any different?
I get the impression worland is "combining" outputs, + to + and - to -, I don't know, I don't really follow his description. Then again, 70's and some 80's cars were frequently Common ground - and thats a whole different story.
