Can someone recommend a short list of good in dash tuners?

First of all, i'm new to aftermarket tuners. I want to upgrade from my OEM. I talked to my son and he gave me the names of few tuners which he thought were good-Panasonic, Sony, and Pioneer. He had Alpines which gave him problems.I see that tuners range from under a hundred to several hundred dollars.Besides more features in the more expensive tuners, is the sound also better? I want to buy a Sirius ready tuner. I appreciate all suggestions.Oh yeah, i have a 1999 f-150 .

I forgot to mention and it is probably a stupid question, but is there a brand of radio that's less likely to get ripped off? Back in the late 60s-early 70's 8 track was popular. I had so many decks ripped off from my car, i stopped buying them.

well, what does your stock unit not do that you want it to do? A tuner is a tuner...the stock one works just fine. I can see if your's didn't come with a cd player, but they are pretty much stock now, aint they? I just put and updated amp and XM radio behind mine with much better speakers and it sounds awesome, and your not going to get anything less likely to be stolen than stock.

If you are going to change though, Panasonic sucks, and Sony's have a weird sound range in my opinion. Pioneers are usually a good choice in terms of sound for your dollar.

Any particular models? I'm interested in this too since I have found out firsthand that Panasonics suck...

I'd either go with Alpine or Eclipse

Kenwood sells reasonably priced head units that are sirius ready, and you can buy the whole package at crutchfield.com

Alpine is the way to go. Depending on which model, almost all of them have excellent equalizer controls and settings, by far more than any deck I have seen. If you don't want an Alpine then I would go with a Pioneer, they make very solid decks.
