Need advice on 2001 Stereo Replacement

Greetings,

I just inherited my uncle's 2001 F150 Reg Cab Long Bed. It has what I'm pretty sure is the standard stereo unit (cassette/AM/FM). I don't think he even turned it on. I'd like to know what other Ford OEM stereos I could replace it with. I found a pioneer 6cd indash changer on ebay that I like (Model 1L2F-18C815-MB). Got the little holes on the side. Does anyone know if this thing will fit?

thanks!

It should fit but the problem is the wiring harnesses are differant depending on the model you get, I do believe some XLT's will work with the XL's but the Lariats will not.

That's not true. There was a single harness used for the 2001 (and other year) models. You can use that Pioneer CD-6 head unit, as I had a 2002 Explorer Sport Trac and my 2001 F150 Supercrew and the units were interchangeable (one had the Pioneer CD-6 and the other the FM/AM/cassette). You may consider just adding a CD changer to the current head unit though. Those units have CD changer control as long as you have a CD button on the unit. It would be a more involved installation, because you would need to get the harness as well, but it's another option.
