Stock Radio Upgrades

Looking for a little help:

I'm in to keeping my truck stock looking and with that in mind, I have a 97 f-150 XLT 4x4 Off Road Edition with an AM/FM Cassette in it. Would like to upgrade to a Factory Cassette / CD player, but I'm not sure what model number would plug right in. I know that there was an upgrade path. Wondering if anyone might know which one to choose? I've seen used units for about $125 which is reasonable. The company that told me that there was an upgrade wants $500. I'm willing to pay a few bucks for the info since I've contacted at least 6 dealerships and none were interested or could even help.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Contact this guy through eBay. He answered many questions from me, and I didn't even order from him. He seems to really know his shizitz.

The 97-98 HU wire harnesses are the same, so any HU out of those year models will work, however it wouldnt hurt to pull out your radio and look at the harness so you know what to look for. Just look at the shape of the harness, the wires will be in the right place.

500 is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to much for a factory cd/cassete HU.

You can get a cheaper Stock Cd Head Unit From Ford for way Cheaper than $500. From any person on Ebay.

$500 Is kind of Insane.

If you could even find a good picture on Ebay of the back of a Stock Ford Head Unit. And compare it to the back of yours. That might work. But I think they changed From 1998 up.

Because I had to get a scosche wiring harness for my 2000 F-150. And it said 98' And up on it.

I take it you already know how to remove the Tape player. But if not, you buy these Two metal U shaped Prongs at Wal-Mart / Other department Store called a " Din Removal Kit "

It's pretty simple. Happy Replacing.

This seems like the right thread to ask- If I found a 99+ OEM CD player from an f-150, what-besides the harness conversion- would be required to intall it? I thought I read that they needed to be trimmed? That is a major concern for me. Is there any way to install a newer HU without trimming anything?

This would be going into my '98.
