Stock Radio Acting Possessed
I would like to know if anyone has encountered this particular problem with a stock radio and if you have any suggestions or remedies.
I have a 94 2wd with a stock radio w/cassette. The other day the volume control went out of control and increased all the way to the loudest point all on its own. None of the other buttons worked at all. Not thinking rationally because I had the radio blasting in my ear, I put in a tape so I could fast forward or reverse while pushing other buttons. Bad choice as the tape is now stuck in the deck and the only button that works is the power button. If I turn off the truck and turn back on the volume starts low and races up to the loudest setting, no stopping it at all.
I pulled the fuse, did nothing. I disconected the battery cable and with doing that I was able to pop out the tape and the volume stays in the mid range, but the power button is still the only working button. I popped out the head unit because someone I work with said there might be a reset button on the back side, no reset button, no loose wires. HELP!
This is just a yard work, dump run truck, not a daily driver. I am fine with the stock radio because I don't need much. My goal is to fix this one and not have to buy a new one. Does anyone have an idea of what I might be able to do next to fix this problem? Does anyone know why the radio is now posessed and what happened?
Thanks,
Michelle

Sounds like something in the radio failed. It's been a while since I've seen the radio in a older body style F series but I think they had all logic controls(no mechanical pushbuttons) so its probably all integrated circuits and would cost more to fix than the radio is worth. There are several places that sell OEM radios on the 'net you may want to do a search and check out their prices.
