6 Disk In-Dash and home made MP3 cds
Anyone else have issues with the in dash changer not liking cd's? I've had the same cds in for a few weeks, and now it won't play a few of them, tried loading them in different slots. Not factory cd's, but pc burnt mp3 disks...
I had the same problem with my old Grand Cherokee w/ the Infinity upgraded system. It didn't matter if it was a burned cd or right out of the store, if there were any scratches what so ever, it wouldn't play. period.. And you can eject and spin the cd to the right or left and it don't matter. I have never had that problem again with an after market head unit. In fact it was so bad with the Jeep, that now the first thing I do is replace the factory H.U. no matter how good the dealership says the stock system is. I bought my 02 F150 Screw at 7 pm on a wednesday night & by Thursday after work, had my new Pioneer 950 mp installed. I guess you could try cleaning the player?
Good luck. Sorry not more help.

Well, the aftermarket cd player is on the list, just farther down on the list. Of course, if the player keeps this up, the new head unit will be higher on the list. CD's went straight from the pc drive, to the truck.
hey im not sure what type of cds you are using ,b ut you may try single packaged cd's rather than spindle packs... it seems odd though that they were running fine, and now they wont any more. i've already pulled my stock unit, is there a reset button you could push? maybe the deck is screwed up and needs a hard reset- ie remove power to the unit-
good luck

My new 2006 Lariat does the same thing... it chokes on my home made cd's.... Is this an anti-piracy thing built into these decks?

I've never had a problem using Verbatim CDR's (from 100 disc spindles) in any Ford vehicle. You might want to try a different brand disc as some are better than others. If you continue to have trouble, burn the discs at a slow speed such as 4-12X. Not all CD/DVD burners are created equal and compatability problems will some times crop up between your PC and HU.
I just started having this problem yesterday with the CD-6 in my '06 Lariat. The MP3 disk that has been in there for over 8 months now, all of the sudden won't play. It just says "bad disk" and spits it out.
This is going to be a real pain if i have to burn a new disk every 8 months or so.

bad CD player
I had the same problem in my 05. Got a replacement under warranty - that unit worked great for one day then same problem. Replaced again with a 'new' new unit and it's been trouble free for 3 months now. The first replacement was a refurb, the one I have now was new from the factory. Sounds like a consistent problem for these units. Mine wouldn't read any CDs - just spit them out and displayed 'Bad CD'. So, if you're still in warranty I suggest getting the dealership to replace it.
Hey Krohbar,
I had the same problem with my '05 6CD-MP3 head unit. I had 4 or 5 Memorex mp3 cds that worked fine in my head unit for a whole year until one started skipping ealier this summer. I made the mistake of using a laser lens cleaner on the head unit and it spit back all of the memorex disks with the infamous "Bad Disk" error.
I did some asking around and a family member suggested what Balog did, to use the individually packed cdr's as the spindle/bulk buy ones are the lowest quality. Sure enough after getting some Immation single packed cdr's and waiting patiently for the head unit to read them, they all work perfectly and now I can put off buying an aftermarket head unit for the time being.

it chokes on my home made cd's....
I used single pac Sony disks, and burned them as any other disk in the past. Every home made disk we ever made has worked fine, in other ford products as well. And as others have described, the disk works for a while.. then dies. I once read where some kids defeated an anti-piracy thing by coloring the disk with a black felt pen.... I'm game for anything that works... Its very disappointing that this expensive truck won't play my disks!!! Bummed out in Canada...
I had the same problem with my 6-disc indash. I put MP3 Cd's in and they would just skip and not play right. I figured out that it depends on how old your CD burner. Older CD burners have some issues with buring some CD's correctly for newer cd players. I have a newer burner that I burned CDs on and now it is working just fine, not skipping what so ever. My suggestion would be try burning on a newer CD burner and see if that works. Not sure how old your computer is, but that could be a problem.
