What time is it?

My '89 F150 has the factory AM/FM radio. The light in the display is out and you can only see the clock or the station numbers when you have just the right light. Has anyone everchanged the display light in one of these radios? If so, is it accessable from the outside or does the radio have to be disassembled?

I'm not sure how the radio's were in the 89 model, but if it's the light IN the stereo you would be better off purchasing either a new cheap HU or a used factory unit...

So I take it that the light is inside the case of the radio?

i replaced the light bulb in my grandfather's '89 ford, years ago...i don't remember the exact light bulb, but i got it at a local pep boys store... just take the radio out and remove the plastic face...the bulb is right there. just pull it out and match it up at your local parts store...easy as pie. it's about a $2 fix.

you'll be suprised at how easy it is. i had a '91 ranger, when i was in highschool, and i drove that truck around for years without a display light...after i changed my grandfather's bulb, i felt really stupid, having dealt with it for so long and not doing anything about it. when i found the light at pep boys, i bought an extra, just in case that one went out later on, but he sold the truck before it went out, and i don't know where that bulb went...but if i had the bulb, i would be willing to bet that i could take the radio out, change the bulb, and have it back in and working in five minutes or less!

Thanks, I replaced it with no problems. The replacement bulb was clear instead of black on the end so I may have to wear my sunglasses to see the time . Actually it's only a little brighter but I can actually see what station I'm listening to now. I don't know if I could match your 5 minute time, but if I had my tools ready I could probably make it in 10 or 15. Thanks again.
