To Alpine or not to Alpine?

Hey guys, had an Alpine 50x4 watt deck in my old truck. It was a low model, didn't even have a volume ****, just a clicker. It sounded great but whenever I cranked it it distorted. I'm not sure if this was the Alpine or the speakers (Polk Audio 6.5s, so I don't think it was them), but I'm hesitant to go with another Alpine unless I know this thing will crank and stay clean. What do you guys think?

Sound like a problem with your old speakers not the HU. I would say go ahead and get an Alpine again, they are welll worth the money.

what model was it?

I'm on my 3rd Alpine, and the previous two are in a couple of restored boats and pushing better systems than the one in my truck.

I think you should Alpine.

You might have just had a little of bad luck.

Yeah, I figure it may have been the Polk speakers rather than the deck. Because until I was at high volume, the thing had better detail than any other deck I've heard. Just so long as I can crank it!

Speakers could have just been short handed for power, that would be my guess.

Or maybe the speakers were blown from the HU clipping, which Ive heard some Alpines do at higher volume.
