eclipse avx 2494

I've been looking at an eclipse avx 2494 head unit for my 04 f150. I think I woudl get more use out of the hard drive featuer than I would the navigation ability of the avn 5435 since I don't travel very much. I called my local dealer and I've got a deal worked out for the AVX 2494 for $1495 which includes instalation and tax. Does this sound like a good deal, I think the MSRP for the AVX 2494 is like $3000??

thanks for any input and by the way great forum you've got here!

Sounds like a fair deal to me. If you could stand another $1000, get the 5495, which has a hard drive, navigation, and a memory stick feature. But I've heard good things about the 2494.

So quality wise you guys recommend the Eclipse? I've never owned an aftermarket stereo before so I have no prior experiance. I was originally going to go with the kenwood ddx7015 with a music keg, but when I discovered this AVX 2494 I was drawn to the built in hard drive feature. I've thought about waiting for the 5494 that has it all but it's another grand and I'm already having a hard enough time talking myself into spending this much cash for a stero.

I plan on keeping my stock speakers for right now, I've got the audiophile system so I'm hoping sound quality will remain the same if not just a little bit better. I've also got the XM commander installed in my ashtray and I'll be glad to finally have the option to get away from fm modulation.

If you want a shop to install it for you, Columbus Car Audio can do it for you. You aren't that far from Columbus.

Excuse me but does the AVX 2494 have navigation?

If so I was quoted $1700 so its a good deal if you ask me.

The AVX 2494 doesn't have navigation, only a 20gb hard drive with mp3, dvd, etc, etc capabilities. The newest model AVN 5495 has a 30gb hard drive (I think) along with navigation and all the other bells and whistles.

Personally, I've decided to wait on my purchase of any aftermarket stereo.

So $1700 for the AVN 5495 is a good deal I guess?

i would say 1700 is a good price on the AVN 5495, but i didn't price a 5495. if i can ever save a few extra bucks i may try to pick up the 5495 myself. I don't drive enough to justify the navigation system, but it sure would be neat to have on those rare occasions i do take a road trip.

I'd go for it because you'll be crying cause you didn't get it. I know thats what I did with the head unit I have right now.

i put the avn 5435 in my '04 f150, because the 5495 didn't have sirius capability...i also like the idea that the navigation is dvd based, instead of on the hard drive, because when a new version comes out, i can just buy the disc...instead of sending it in to have it updated...(assuming that's what you have to do) personally, i think that it's a great head unit! the navigation is the best that i've seen...just like the lexus units, it looks factory, and it has a lot of controls.

Sorry I just realized the price I got was for the AVN 5435.

Does anyone know how much the reverse camera and remote are from Eclipse?

the remote is fairly cheap...~$50 or less...i decided not to go with it, since i integrated my steering wheel controls to the eclipse...it would just be something to lose, and it doesn't have a ton of functions, either. you can get the eclipse camera on ebay for $190 anytime...i don't know what they run in the stores, though.
