odd dimmer response on my aftermarket HU

Yesterday I picked up my truck (05 F-350) and last night I swapped out the CD-6 HU for an Alpine CDA-9847 with Ipod controller and new Pioneer 4-way speakers front and back. I never heard an ampless setup rock like this! Anyway... the Alpine had a dimmer wire that I went ahead and hooked up. Funny thing though, there is no effect when you roll the dimmer wheel until you roll it to it's lowest setting, then the lights on the HU just flicker. Any ideas? This isn't an important feature to me, I never dim my dash lights, but just thought I'd ask.

Now to put that CD-6 unit on Ebay...

The only thing that'll do is dim 1 level of brightness when you turn on your headlights, not keep level brightness levels with your dash.

Hah! No way, I have the same wierd thing on my Alpine 9831. Same thing, turning down the dimming dial does nothing until the lowest setting. Then it's like a disco show. Must be an Alpine thing?

Yeah the dimmer switch is for your headlights, it doesn't apply to the dash lights... as for the discoball thing... Just make the best out of it and throw in some BeeGee's
