CB radio questions...

Hey guys/gals,
I am trying to find out what options there are as far as DIN sized CB's.

I'm looking for something that will install with the HU in a double din opening. But the part that makes it a little harder is finding one that the MIC doesn't plug into the front.

Anyone know of any good sites or any specific models to look at? I've been google'ing and going nutz trying to find something. And When I do it usually is all covered in Chrome or looks like a POS.

I know someone on here has to have a CB. Where else is everyone mounting them? I'm think I may just get a regulay CB and mount it in the center console. But I would like to through it up in the double din hole with my headunit if I can find one that matches and has a rear plug for the mic.

I have the flow through console though.

The trouble I'm having is that CB's are mostly hideous. So I'm thinking I won't find one that will match with the my pioneer headunit. DEH-P9600MP. I am probably going to have to mount it inside the center console under the arm rest or something. I get my truck in about a week or so, so maybe I will wait and see when I get it. I may also be able to get on that has the mic port in the back, and then I can mount it in the ash tray. THat way the ash tray flap covers it, when I need it, I could just flip down the cover.

My real goal with the CB is to talk to friends, use the PA, and I would love to get one that can work with the new police scanner encryption.

Dunno about any DIN ones, but at WalMart ( ) I saw a CB that was pretty small sized, and looked fairly good, compared to most Ive seen. It was only 40 bucks too. Not sure how good it would be, but hey, its a CB.

Do they make cb's that also double as police scanners? Actually I'm more interested in the whatever the fire department uses. I live next to a fire department, so it would be pretty neat to hear what's actually going on and where they are going.

a CB (analog) has a pretty low frequency (around 26-27MgHz), while police and Fire Departments use higher freqs. around 400-900MgHz, probably even higher. and once the calls have been made, all the tactical stuff goes into digital mode, so you can't really hear any of the good stuff anyway.

You'll probably have to get two different devices, a scanner and a CB. The antennas are two different sizes.

Crudeau, the tray under an aftermarket stereo is a great place to put a cb. I was thinking about that myself, but I think I would want the mic to plug in the front.

It would fit perfect in there. THe only problem is that it is in a spot where the looks are very important. And I think that the wire hanging down the dash wouldn't look to good. I was thinking about mounting the mic on the left side of the steering wheel. Somewhere where it wasn't visible when not in use.

What do yall think about this cb radio? It has the pa, but the antenna lights up blue and isnt that illegal to have a blue light on the top of your truck? Also where can you get a scrambler/radar detector?

I bought my stuff at Walcott CB. They seemed to have a pretty good selection. They also show the dimensions of the cb, which is pretty helpful.

You should also checkout Firestik's page. They're an awesome source of info. Click on their "tech help" link.
