Stock HU Power?

Just curious as to how much power the stock unit puts out RMS and Peak. Im looking for an aftermarket HU and dont want to buy something with less power than what I already have. BTW, I have the stock 6CD Changer and have changed all my speakers to pioneer 3 ways. Thanks!!!

I believe the stock non-audiophile is only 8 rms, not sure about peak. This is just what I was told. So basically any new decent HU will have more power.

I'm not sure what the factory HU puts out power wise, but I did the same thing as you and replaced the speakers with pioneer 3-ways. I was a little disappionted in that there was little noticeable difference in sound quality with the new speakers. Then I added and amp (40x4 I already owned) big difference in volume before distortion, but not much improvement in sound quality. Then I replaced the HU now there was a major increase in sound quality!
The goals for your system should be decided first. If it's sound quality I would replace the HU even before replacing the factory speakers- you'll probably also gain output power as well. Don't be fooled by manufacture's claims for max power- It is myth (sorry alpine). If you don't believe it check out the size of any decent 40 or 50 watt X 4ch amp compared to a "50watt x 4" HU. While size certainly is not the only defining factor for amp power my piont is It takes larger electronics to make real sustainable power.
Finally higher power does not equal better sound, but instead allows greater volume levels (louder) without distortion (hopefully). Decent sound quality can be had fairly inexpesively, but big power will cost you.
