04-05 cd-6 problem

I just got a 04-05 audiophile cd6 headunit and have a slight problem. I had no problem installing it. It powered on just fine and the radio works great. The only problem is that the cd changer does not seem to be working. The guy I bought it from forgot to take out 3 cds and now I can not get them out. it says eject error and I can not even play them either. Any ideas on how to fix this or am I going to need to go to the dealership? Thanks for any replies.

Do a search on "Slots Full" - I found this on one of those treads by Spoondog_SVT:

Mine did the same thing when I got it... really pissed me off for a while there, but I was able to fix it myself.

It turned out that the mechanism inside the CD-changer module had become dislodged, and was no longer travelling on its internal 'track'. A simple persuasion of the misbehaving 'trays' and all is well, and has been ever since.

I don't have pics, because I wasn't thinking of documenting the proceedure at the time. Anyway, if you are willing, you can actually seperate the changer module (top, right behind the insertion slot) from the rest of the head unit by taking out several screws. Be careful when seperating the modules, as there is a ribbon cable connecting the changer module to the rest of the unit.

Once seperated, you can then take apart the changer module. Be very careful here, just in case you have parts start flying, rolling, or dropping out (there are some small springs in there). Then it is a matter of using some mechanical knowledge to see if anything simple is amiss, righting the wrong, and putting everything back together again.

If you want, you can send it over and I'll try to take a look at it. However, I do think that this is usually a symptom of shipping, and that means there is nothing guaranteeing that 1) I could fix it, or 2) it would get back to you in a fixed state.

Good luck, and let us know what you find!

Just a quick update:
I decided instead of waiting for my appointment, I would try to fix it myself. I thought that a cd may have been jarred loose or one of the cassettes that holds a cd might have been loose. I took the radio apart and saw the three cds. I got them out just by prying them out. Then I noticed that one of the plastic pieces that goes into a channel along the side of the changer looked out of place. After fumbling for about 20 min. I got all of the plastic pieces back into the channels that I thought they shouold have gone into. I reassembled the radio and BAM! radio and cd palyer work for my new audiophile headunit. I am thrilled. I will keep my fingers crossed that this fix was permanent. Now all I need is a factory sub and amp to complete my system!
