Thumbs down Audiophile HU

I have read a few posts now where '05 Audiophile HU's are generating "bad disk" errors, and/or not playing CD's. I took delivery of my '05 F150 KR less then a week ago, and have noticed that CD-R's I have burned from iTunes skip so bad, I can't even listen to them. I just burned one this am, never even touched the underside of the CD-R, walked it to the truck right out of the burner, and it skips. I have also put in old CD's that are scratched beyond belief, and they play without any problems. I don't by the "compression" story, as iTunes burns to cda format.

It seems to me that Ford has released a substandard product, and should be embarresed to promote it as part of an "Audiophile" system. I'd like to see how to get more attention on this issue, so that they can do something about it. Switching out HU's doesn't seem to do the trick (or so I have read).

HU skips?

Hey man- ive had the same problem (not in the f150, dont have it yet) BUT, i was burning from Sonic software on my laptop, skipped like heck on everything, cds clean, new cd brands-speeds, etc.- it could very well be Itunes software...i insisted it was my drive, dell replaced 2 of them...then i tried burning from Nero burning rom- no problems anymore...try burning from a new program and then check the HU playability again.

hope that helps?

You Get What You Paid For

It was suggested to use new software, which I actually did, and still had no luck. I decided to take a step back, and reevaluate. I examined one of the brand new CD's and found it was slightly scratched. Interesting, brand new, but scratched. Hummmmm. Then it hit me. The CD's I was using were bought on a spindle, and thus the CD's were stacked one on top of each other. Perhaps this may be the underlying cause of my home made CD woes. I took at trip over to Wal-Mart and bought Maxell Professional Music CD's (3 layer CD's). I then ran a CD Duplication task from my burning software, and tada! Plays like a charm. I have played the same CD from start to end twice, and not 1 skip or pop. Tonight I start converting all my other home made CD's to the Maxell.

The moral of the story….don't buy cheap spindle CD's to use in an Audiophile CD player :-P

Great advice! I would like to start burning some of my MP3 files to discs to use in the F-150 I recently ordered. Does anyone have the instructions from Ford on how to create Audiophile-friendly MP3 CDs? I understand there is a limit to the number of folders and tracks each disc may have.

Thanks,
Tom
