Question

This is a poll question. What does yours steering wheel have in the center? Mine is all black. And my truck number is 603. Why I ask this is a friend just got a 02 number 1023 and his says ford in a blue oval. WTF I want that.

You have question? I have answer

Back in the late spring here in Kansas City towards the end of the production run of the 2002 HD trucks, I was there as most of you know, Ford simply changed over to the original old style steering wheel airbag with World Famous Blue Oval on them. It was a surprise to most, however since Ford has cut cost and steering wheels and airbags are similiar to others now like the Ranger, these are nothing more than an emblem which has 4 metal clips to attatch itself to the airbag. I would not [B]SUGGEST ANYONE ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME PLEASE. I would not try and attatch one of the unless you were to use double sided tape or hot glue maybe.

My 02 (#5209) is also all black. There was some discussion on the boards about this a while back and Showya has explained in the previous post why this is.

I was also dissappointed when I found out.

there were 3 different steering wheels that went on the 02's.
here's a link to the thread
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...steering+wheel

some 02's have this wheel

Here's a pic of one of the 1st HD trucks that was revealed to the public. Its got the jeweled emblem, but also, the L steering wheel, and 2 toned, also, its got the regular pedals, and old style under part of dash, and the curved o S#!+ handles instead of the boxier ones...go figure

Here's another 02 HD that was on the showroom floor a few months ago around here with the jeweled emblem (#8xxx). So the very very early HD's came with a L wheel and jeweled emblem, then HD wheel with jeweled emblem, then 00 wheel without jeweled emblem, and then back to jeweled emblem. Can't they just stick to one design. LoL

I still like the 01 steering wheel the best. Mostly cuz its got 4 spokes and not just 2 big ones

My 00 Harley had an all black steering wheel, 01 had the blue oval one, and my 02 has the all black one.

About the emblem...it was suck a lot to like clip one on your wheel and when your crashed it would be launched by the airbag through your skull...That....would suck! Anyways...I like the '01 wheel the best...

A word of advice to those of you who have the metal emblem....DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT press on the emblem itself. I smashed mine in the other day when I went to honk my horn at old lady who locked up her brakes to keep from hitting a squirrel. This emblem will give in to any force that you lay upon it. I had to have mine replaced becuase I could not stand to look at it. Be careful gentlemen.
