Stereo Install pics

Here are a few pics from my ongoing install.

Here we have the 6 1/2" door speaker and 1" tweeter. Also notice the passive crossover mounted on the door.

Next, we have the mounted JL stealthbox before the console was fitted over it.

Finally, we have the JL amp mounted flush behind one of the storage doors on the back wall.

I ended up NOT cutting the stock console like JL's directions say. I mounted the lid directly and it shuts fine. There is a little gap that you can't see, but will probably cause some vibration from the bass. I will purchase some rubber weather stripping to solve this problem.

The new door speakers made a HUGE difference. I didn't cut any metal to make them fit.

Very nice Did you built your own plate to mount the 6-1/2 and tweeter?

I did make my own template and it was quite easy. I put the 6 1/2" speaker upside down on 1/4" hard board. I traced the speaker onto the board. With the speaker still on the board, I measued down 2 inches from the middle. I then moved the speaker down 2 inches and retraced. I connected the sides and had a nice oval.

A future enhancement will be to take out the template and flush mount the tweeter. That way I will be able to swivel the tweeter for better imaging. I didn't do it right away because I would have to cut sheet metal.

Mark,

Have you listened while driving ?
I would wonder if your tweeter doesn't need to come up a bit and angled towards the ears ( so the highs are not being blocked
by body parts ).
I did 6.5" comps in my L. and put the driver in the stock location, then brought the tweeter in front of the door handle.

Good Luck Experimenting

I've never been a big fan of placing the midbass and tweeter very far apart. In a 3 way setup this isn't as noticable if the mid and tweeter stay together. I plan on ditching this setup next spring for a 3-way setup - I just happened to have these speakers new in the box from 2 years ago or so.

The difference from stock is obvious, but I haven't had enough listening time (about 45 minutes total) to give a good opinion on sound stage and imaging with the current location. I might at some point flush mount the tweeter in it's swivel base.
