Youth of America

Went to the grocery store this morning. There is a kid there bagging my groceries, he can't be more than 12 years old. He asks if he can wheel the groceries out, I said sure....
So we hit the parking lot and he asks where I'm parked. I reply im in that grey truck way out there....
His response..." Man Mr., that's the '02 supercharged Harley Davidson!! Is that really yours? I replied yeah....
So he goes on.... "I really like that and the Lightning too" I explained how I wanted a lightning, but I need the space in the cab.... Here is where it got interesting.... "Man that truck comes from the factory with 345 hp, but with a chip and pulley you can get it to over 400 hp...plus the hd comes with leather"
Then he says all his brother's friends drive hondas and that he didn't like them because they were rice.....
I was floored.... I was standing there with my jaw on the pavement listening to this kid... So maybe there is hope for kids today...

THat makes me grin. I was the same way when I was his age. My father is a shady tree mechanic and when I liked a particular car(s), I researched everything about them. My SVO is one of the ones I love to research. See my signature.

Love those young motor heads!

I suprise alot of people too when i talk to them online, and then they meet me in person and they see how young i am (17) and how much i know about these trucks.

I would have taken him home. His parents raised him well.

Ok, well that leads to the next question: Not trying to offend at all, but how does a 17 & 18 year old afford a HD or a lightening? I never had a dollar to my name when when I was your age. Now at 26 I have just now been able to afford my Expedition after four year in the telecom business. Don't get me wrong, I had my fair share of nice cars and junkers, but they always were 7-10 years old and had over 100k on them until now. I need to work in your profession.

me neither, I built my first car myself and sold it for a pretty good profit after driving it all through high school.

That's the best way to do it. My 1st was a 77' Pontiac Firebird w/ T-Tops and a broke timing chain. $800 dollars later it was a decent car.

I almost felt like tossing him the keys and tell him to lets go for a ride..... but I thought better of it...
It reminds me of that old Mean Joe Green Coke commercial when he tosses the kid his jersey...

All you gotta do is use your talents, and treat people like gold. I learned that early, and now I dedtail cars averaging $25 an hour.

I don't have a HD or bolt tho. I savin until i can hand teh check over full and not get burdened by payments.
