Getting there...

Finally starting to ge the hang of launching this truck... man is it hard! Probably the most difficult vehicle I've ever raced... then again, I haven't ran many 5400 lb, 400 hp trucks with no weight over the rear tires on stiff 20" radials . Anyway, went to the last TNT of the year last night at San Angelo, crappy conditions with an absolute bp of 26.5--managed a 13.75 @ 100.7 mph with a 2.14 60' time... and spanked a lightly modded '01 Ram Air TA in the process . Also got to put it on a couple of my buddies '99 and '00 GT's that had gears, headers, full exhaust, pulleys, etc. Both races were very close--but I was able to hold them off at the end. Both races were pretty similiar, them getting a jump off the line, me pulling out a lead in the middle of the track and them gaining at the end. Probably had 50 people come up and ask about or make comments about the truck. It was fun.
Only bad thing was I fried the clutch on my Mustang... Oh well, was planning on changing to an automatic anyway.

Congrats Sling! I found that the stiff GT's will actually get quite sticky after a good 10 second powerbrake. Try that next time to see if it helps your 60'.

Thanks guys... Outnumbered--You're right, I started doing more of a burnout and the truck does launch better. What I did the last 2 runs was to drive around the water box as always, back up close to the water but not in it, powerbrake and bring the revs up slowly and get the tires to spinning pretty good--then throttle it up to keep them spinning as I do a burnout about to the starting beams and let off and drive through. Back up and stage. Hit a 2.1xx both times---at least better than the 2.3's to 2.5's I was running .
This goes against all my experience with street radials at the strip--usually the best thing is just to spin them enough to clean the dirt and debris off and then race, longer burnouts have tended to slow me down...
