Lock-Nuts
Lock-Nuts
When I got my 02 HD there was a set of Lock-Nuts already installed and the Key was in the glove box. I then found another set of Lock-Nuts in an unopened bag. With all the Trucks found on blocks being reported here I decided to put the second set on as well yesterday morning. Turns out that the key is the same as the other set. Kind of makes me wonder if all the HD’s have the same keys. I sure hope that is not the case. Did anyone else have two sets of Lock-Nuts and if so are your keys the same?
I had an Alarm/Remote Starter installed yesterday. I hope with the two sets and this system I have a better fighting chance of not being a victim.

My experience causes me to recommend the "Winchester" or "Mossberg" alarm system.
First warning is that "RACK RACK" noise as you rack one into the chamber. Then, I recommend use of the "Dragon's Breath" round, which throws a rather large fireball into the air. Throw one of them over their heads and see if they hang around.
Next step is that "RACK RACK" alarm again. I recommend the use of a black powder diversion round or pepper gas round.
Follow that up with the "RACK RACK" alarm again, and you have clearly given the perpetrat.....I mean, disenfranchised (is there such a word as 'enfranchised?) non wheel owner, who clearly blames you for his failure to NOT own a fine set of wheels, FIVE warnings.
Now if he decides to come after you....well, his bad luck.
Experience shows the first RACK RACK is usually enough!

"Lock lugs" might slow down a thief but that's about it. I had one set and a tire shop lost my key. We hammered a 16 pt. socket over the nut and it came right off. I tried it with the replacement set (different brand and design) and it came off too.
I like the Winchester/Mossberg/Remington/etc method as well, pumps have the best sound. I once helped a guy reload some 12 ga. shells with rock salt. How'd you like to get shot with that??

the HD's don't all have the same keyed locknuts, but ford doesn't have that many different style keys, and there are ways to get around them. i've been looking into a better brand locknut. I have the ford ones on now, but wanted to add a 2nd set.
when i bought my truck there was already a set installed, but the dealer installed a second set for me at no cost. The keys are different which makes for more security, but really i work as a tech and i can get any locking lugnut off with one of my tools in less the 20 seconds doesnt matter who makes the lock. if somebody wants your rims nothing will stop them but i agree locks will slow them down and sometimes turn them off.
I would be willing to bet there aren't very many key codes for the stock locking lug nuts. Regardless, your best protection is to keep it garaged if at all possible. For those that can't, there are quit a few brands that make a full set of locking lugs. While this may not stop the pro's, it may make them consider any easier target. Remember most thieves are lazy. If they weren't, they would have a real job, making a decent living, and wouldn't need to steal.
Beyond that, invest in a real alarm. The factory keyless entry system is not a real alarm. Yeah, I know, your thinking alarms are a joke, and everyone ignores them. Try adding a few features to it that will get attention.
Start with letting the thiefs know you have an above average alarm. Add a few extra LED's where they can be seen from the outside. In the past, I have installed them in the third brake light, taillights, park lights, etc. I even drilled small holes in the door handle, and flush fit tiny hi-intensity LED's in the handle.
Besides the standard siren that gets no attention, add a set of air horns. Hide them under the body where they can't be disabled. You will probably want to add a hidden switch, so they can be disconnected from the system if necessary.
I could go on, but you get the idea. Now that I have a 6 car garage, I just park as many inside as I can. There was a time when I had to park outside, and these things helped save my trucks from the crooks...
