Unhappy Some bad luck, flooded...

Man... after reading the post on a tree falling on their truck, I now feel luckier with my current situation. With all the rains here in Northern California, my apartment complex parking lot was flooded. With gusts if 60 mph, all the leaves were clogging up drainage systems.

I woke up today and found this horrible sight:

The blue car is my daily beater. Thank goodness the water didn't get to my truck. I managed to push it out of there and put to higher ground. We also pushed the black Civic out of there.

I alrealy called my insurance, GEICO, and they will send an adjuster in a day or two to take a look at the damage. My policy does not include aftermarket accessories. I also logged my situation on my apartment management.

I jacked the front end up so any water will come out of the muffler. By golly... it started. I was so happy. The head lights work, horn, brake lights and I was able to drive it for about a mile or so. The only part that I have not tested is teh stereo. I am waiting for the entire interior to dry up.

Here are my questions:

If GEICO doesn't cover my damages, will the apartment complex cover them?

Since my door speakers were submerged for no more than 2 hours and only half-submerged, will they still be okay to use? I got Alpine SPR176As.

Can someone give me a checklist of what to check on my car? I've never had a vehicle flooded before.

Sorry for the long post... I just need some help so I won't come be at the short end of the stick.

From experience

How high up did the water get in the car? No matter what your going to want to pull your carpet out and let the sound material under it dry. if you down the carpet dries before the underpad and it starts to rot...the rot smells...then it starts to eat the floors.

Pull the carpet and possible the seats (if they got really wet) let it all dry out and then drive it.

I have a snorkel on my off road rig and I use it to drive around in windshield deep water. I left the carpet in at first...now I don't.

If you want you can use my old trick, I used to pull out my carpets and run down to the local laundromat and throw the carpets in the washing machine and then the drier. Do it at the "unmanned" ones though or they get pissy.

It leaves the nice freash smell in your car.

Chester,

Man I'm sorry about your car.

I'm really, really glad thought that the truck is okay. It flooded in San Jose too with lots of trees down.

So everyone, for the next 6 months, don't park near trees!!!!

I had a tree fall on my Mazda back during el Nino. It was a city tree but they woudln't cover it becuase they said it was healthy. Insurance wouldn't cover it becuase they said it was an act of God.

In the end I paid to get it fixed.

Also if you guys have not done so, please wax the beautiful trucks before they go out in the rain!!!!

That was me looking for the stacke 8...and I'm still looking. I've heard it will work with an SC but not 100% sure. If it does and you still have it I'm very interested in trying one.

Yup truck was sold. I still go on here once a day to check out what is going on.

Those of you who own other brands and surf those other sites know how good you have it here at this site.

This is the best site anywhere. I'm spoiled. All the other sites suck.

I have to surf Dodge sites now, no one could answer a schematic question for me.

I still have the Stacker and have buyers, but am putting it on a Dodge 4.7 motor to see if it works as well as it did on the 150. If it does, I'm keeping it. If it doesn't, it's gonna be for sale.

I really, really, miss my truck. I was thinking in the future, I'm gonna go, for a 2000 one not for an 03 or 04. I like those a lot too and they would be less than your loaded two tone 03. I guess Ford knows they will sell since there is no Blackwood now and really no competitors.

Keep the site going guys!!!!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I will be pulling carpet on this car as soon as weather permits. We're still expecting more rain and snow.. yes we do get snow. I'm 800 feet about sea level and I get flakes once in a while.

The water got in the car enough to touch the bottom of the seat cushions. The door speakers got wet too, other than that all seems to be okay.

Take ROBSMST suggestion, if you're expecting wind and rain, DO NOT park your truck near a tree.

Man, ChesterC, sorry to hear about your car. Glad your truck was okay though.

We did get some serious rain and wind last night. Up to 72mph gusts at times. I swore my rear patio cover was going to blow off. I did lose my spark arrester off my chimney.

Fortunately all my vehicles are in the garage.

I would certainly look into the apartment complex insurance paying for repairs so it doesn't hit you in your pocketbook. Technically they are at fault if they did not keep the drains clean of debris. If that becomes a big hassle then go with your auto insurance IMO.

Good luck, man!

I did get it in, but just running off the regular battery.

I did conclude that a deep cycle Optima would be the best mod for it. Have it hooked up to the starter switch so it would recharge when vehicle is turned on and only run off the Optima when off.

Yup, love the flareside. When I got my 01 I actually pulled into the dealer cuz they had an 00 for sale and featured out by the street.

They wanted $32K and it had 29K miles. As I was leaving, I saw that they were unloading an 01 from the trailer, and I said, I want that one. The rest is history.

I will own another HD F150 in the future. I promised myself that when I sold the 01. What can you do, family emergencies and health come first, glad to report, all is okay now.

BillP great suggestion on the complex paying for the damage, they are supposed to keep that stuff cleared to prevent floods! Good luck Chester!

Thanks, ROBSMST. Glad to see you still lurk around. Did you get the invite to the meet on the 23rd? You are more than welcome to come. We'd love to have you.

Anyway, glad you were able to sell the truck and take care of the family. Definitely the most important thing.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. It really helps a lot since cash is not plentiful as we all know. I will be working on my car this weekend and dry most of the interior. It's gonna be a long weekend.....

I got printed pictures of the event and I will be giving it to my apt management today. Here's the other things that happened during that morning: 19, yes 19 apartment leaks, 4 apts were flooded inside, carpet wet and furniture damaged. The swimming pool, jacuzzi and fish pond all became one... yuck! Atleast 7 cars were flooded inside.

I had the chance of meeting ROBSMST a couple of weeks ago and he's a very nice guy. I offloaded from him a Harley license frame and plate. Sure would be nice if you can make it on the 23rd.

I promise I will not give you a hard time for driving a Dodge... j/k
