Sub for rear consol?

I'm looking for a decent sub to fit in the rear consol of my '02 HD...anyone know of a good setup that is relativly inexpensive. I don't need to much thump, just enough to compliment the stock setup. I don't plan on upgrading the head unit or speakers anytime soon.

I installed the Blackwood sub in the rear firewall. Sounds pretty good without having to pay for the JL Stealth sub. It's actually about 9" and comes with its own amp.

Good luck!

If you are not looking to thump too much, you could just replace the interior speakers with some JL XR570's pushed by a JL 300/4 amp, and you wont have to even use the rear console. I haven't tried it myself because I have a Stealthbox, but I hear that these speakers sound really good. Maybe not the price range you are looking for, but just a suggestion.

Febber...where'd you get the blackwood sub? That might work for me if the price is right.

Also, how has the paint on your bugdeflector held up. I'm looking at doing the same thing.

if you get a clear bugdeflector and paint the backside it should hold up great. alot of guys get the paint from paintscratch.com and do it themselves

I have a clear bugshield with the backside painted. It's held up fine.

The Blackwood sub is available through your Ford dealer parts dept. I would try to negotiate a price with them. I paid $250 for mine. If you decide to get one let me know because you will run into a couple of problems I can advise you on.

Good luck.

I purchased the JL Stealthbox today for my '02 along with a JL 250/1 mono amp. The Stealthbox had to be ordered and should be in next Thursday or Friday. I'll have a good idea next weekend what this sucker sounds like. For now, I have left everything else stock.

How did you hook up the subs amplifier to the factory radio. Or do you have an aftermarket unit.
thanks

I have the stock head unit. I had the local stereo shop wire in RCA plugs to the amp. I was going to purchase the Ford cable with the matching pin set for the Blackwood sub but they will only sell the complete set of all cables which was unreasonable ($500). The stereo shop installed a gain control **** hidden just above the accessory plug on the front dash which controls any distortion as we didn't install a crossover. Just keep in mind if you purchase the Blackwood sub, it comes without the cable and grille cover. I made my own cover. The Blackwood speaker cover could only be purchased by buying the complete fire wall cover at the Ford dealership (again unreasonable). Hope this helps!

LV - I'm going with a JL audio 250/1 amp for my stealthbox. The nice thing about the JL amp line (and some other brands) is you don't need a remote turn on lead which you won't find on your factory radio. You just splice in to your rear speakers and run that to the JL amp. That provides the audio signal and the remote turn on sensing.

daveenders, that is one kick@$$ system you have i saw the other pics of your interior speakers in your gallery too. that must have cost a pretty penny. LoL. Now you just need to get the bottom of your tonneau carpeted so it all matches better.

*o yeah, one more thing, just a favor if you would. please only post your sig once per thread, especially if its so long. kind of an unofficial rule, but most guys go by it. plus not much need for seeing hte same sig a few times in the same thread. thanks i've got cable, but i'm sure the dailup users will appreciate it also.
