Original Key or knock off?
Original Key or knock off?
I just received a key that I bid on over at Ebay,
It's got the Ford Logo on one side and the HD logo on the other.
It's got the chip in it and I was told it would work with the PAT system.
Is this anything like the keys that came with the truck originally (for any year?)

yup, the 01 and 02 and 03 owners got those keys. us 00 guys just got the plain ones. I have 2 of those with the HD emblem on them in the mail now though headed for my house... more freebies!

but you can program them, it tells you how in the manual
just curious, how much did you pay? You can get them from some dealers for like 15 bucks a piece.
i emailed one guy on ebay and asked if i could just buy a key, and not bother with bidding, and he told me sure, cuz he has a bunch, and he'd sell one key to me for like 50 bucks i think he said
i told him to stick that key you know where. LoL! And the kicker is it was listed on ebay for like 10 bucks with like 3 bids. LoL

I paid $30.00 for the key, from a guy in Arizona.
I just used the "buy it now" option on ebay and was just glad to get it.
I wrote him and he told me he's got more for $30.00, maybee it's the same guy you wrote to?

probably. the dealers actually have them cheaper though for once actually.
not all dealers will have them though cuz they need to buy them in a box with a bunch of keys, not just a set or two. They go for about 15 bucks a key from ford i think....not sure if thats for everbody, or if that was my price, cuz they let me get the stuff at dealer cost. so not sure if ya got a good deal or not.
that guy did try to
me though with that 50 bucks a key
LoL

Well, considering my "stealer" asked if I needed another key and wanted to program it for me (what a nice guy), not even a Harley key at that, and he had the ball$ to tell me it would cost about $100 .... I think I did pretty good at Ebay!!
now I just need that Zaino that makes your truck look so DAMN NICE!!!!

Yep, the dealer will screw you. My wife lost her key to her 02 Expy and the dealer wanted $160 to replace. Fortunately she found it so no money out of her pocket.
Recently I found out (thanks to this forum) you can get standard Ford keys from a locksmith for less than $10 and program them yourself. Someone on this forum said they could group buy a bunch of them if people were interested. Never heard back from him though. I think he said he would sell them for about $15 a piece.

billp, i'lll look into seeing what a bunch of keys would cost from the guy i buy alot of my stuff from who can get ford parts cheap. I'll let ya know what he says they would cost next time i talk to him.
haiweigh, thanks
, you can get it from www.zainobros.com expensive, but well worth the money!!! worth every cent. I figured out it costs me 33 cents a day over a yeaer for the innitial purchase of practically everything they sell plus towells

Thanks, HD356, let me know about the blanks.
I do also use Zaino. My current sig pic has about 6 coats of polish on it and, believe it or not, 2 weeks without washing...no time
Definitely not as shiny as it is right after washing and glossing but compared to other polishes and waxes it holds up well. The gloss enhancer really helps to keep the dust off the paint. I just use my duster on it once a day and it stays clean.
Though the initial investment of Zaino is more than other polishes over the long term I don't think it's any more expensive than other waxes when you think about how often you have to use other ones. IMO, anyway.

both of your trucks look great,
As a matter of fact, I headed to the local Autozone on the way to work today and picked up that Cali-blade that I've seen Josh talk about in posts (after the rain the other day I wasted 2 towels just drying it). I also had the Liquid Glass in my hands and thought about it a little and put it back... Once I got to work I printed out the order sheet for Zaino
The weather is starting to get cold here now, low 40's during the day, is it okay to use it in this weather or will it not spread or set right because of the cold... I don't have a heated garage available and I'd like to give it a nice treatment before the winter sets in.... hopefully we New Englanders will catch an indian summer before too long!
*edit- Just checked the weather, fri and sat look like they'll be in the 50's, no time for zaino, I'll get through the winter with my Meguiars products... then in the spring I'll hit her with the full Zaino treatment

haiweigh, yeah I think it's got to be over 50 degrees for Zaino to cure properly. Check the site for all the details. I would just stick to the Meguiar's for now and do it in the spring unless you can heat the garage or get an unexpected heat wave.
It took mine a while to dry and I did it in like 80-90 degree weather but I did not use the ZFX. I think Harley#356 used it but I'm not sure if that will allow you to apply it in colder temps.

zfx rocks! I did 2 coats today to put her over for the winter. didn't need it at all, but its addictive
Its got 9 coats on it total on the exterior, 5 on the hood, 3 on the tonneau, 3 on the chrome, 2 on the bed (yes i zaino the bed, thats not the worst of it, did the taillight housings once
), and one on the doorsills. She's good for winter. might do one more coat if we get a nice day in december or january sometime. I used 2 drops of zfx per ounce today and by the time i was done applying one coat, i could start removing it. they recommend 3-5 drops, but it wasn't humid out and it was windy so it dried pretty quick. gotta save every last drop of that zfx
anyway, just be careful with that cali waterblade. i'd only recommend using it after you wash your truck, and not after it rains, cuz its more likely for some dirt to land on your truck and it could scratch more easily. When you use the blade, just wipe it off with a towell after EVERY pass! rather be safe than sorry. and after a few uses it'll break in more and bend to the contours better. i got mine in august and it couldn't even contour to the ridge in the hood, now it'll conform to the indent above the flareside step! works awsome. an absorber also works awsome. i like it cuz i'm lazy and don't have to let it dry. just wring it out, roll it up and throw it in its tube and under the rear seat. doesn't mildew or smell or anything. been using them for over 2 years now. They do leave some fine spots of water on the paint, but like a minute later they'll evaporate they are so small and don't leave any spots. the two work together nicely
have fun zainoing! LoL
so what all did you order from them?

Thanks for the tip on using the Cali Blade, Don't worry about me using it on a rain soaked truck, I washed it first after it finished raining
... my friends are calling me obsessive! Some are like... "it's only a truck" oh well
I haven't ordered yet, but the products I have marked off are...
Z 1 Pre treater
Z 2 Wax
Z 6 Gloss Enhancer
I've got an almost new bottle of Meguiars Swirl remover, so I hate to let it just dry up on me.
I've also got the Meguiars Leather cleaner/conditioner, 303 Protectant and more black magic than you can shake a stick at... so tires and interior are all set for now, when the time comes I think I'll try the Zaino tire stuff you seem to like.
Hmm.. with $25 order Zaino sends you an applicator pad, have you used yours or do you use a cotton towel to apply??
I don't really see the immediate need for the swirl remover anyway, but if I were to use it, I'd put it on Between the z1 and z2, right??
As far as the rims go, is it true that Brillo pads bring out a gleeming shine or what?
(do not attempt this at home!)
Thanks.
*edit - ... and I've got a full bottle of Meguiars car wash stuff too.

well since you haven't ordered yet, and you have a black truck, either get z5 also, or skip the z2 and get z5 instead.
the z5 is alot better for darker colors, swirls or no swirls, than z2. Either get both and put more coats of z5 on anyway, or get z5 instead. its not just for swirls, it makes darker color paints look better. z2 is better for lighter color paints, but still good as a final top coat, but not necessary. They are interchangable so it doesn't matter if you put on z2 then z5 or z5 then z2, they just recommend z2 as a top coat cuz finer optical qualites. there are some guys on here like abullerm with a black 00 that only use the z5 and it looks great. i use z2 on the rims and as a top coat when i do the paint as a final coat after a few coats of z5, but i did notice the z5 looks better than just z2 on the black paint.
ANyway, i use their cotton applicator, it works great. I just dampen it with water and wring it out, then a few sprays of the z6 before i go so it doesn't soak up as much polish and waste it.
make sure you only use 100% MADE IN USA cotton towells and cut the edges off cuz they are usually sewn with nylon or something
o yeah, its not a wax, its a synthetic polish
just had to point that out. LoL
*edit* o yeah, you said
tell em you have a friend online that acutally took his taillights out so he could zaino the housings behind them then put the lights back in, and acutally puts the truck on jackstands in the spring to do "spring cleaning" under the truck. i think they'll leave ya alone after that
LoL!

no need to worry, i'm gonna organize a HD cruise for this spring to maybe a drag strip so whoever wants to race can, and then the Mikes famous meet will be an annual thing for the fall. plenty of time to get a zainoing!
