Let The Modes begin
With quit a few off the guys here having had their rims and or Stereo systems ripped off, I thought it was a good idea to get an Alarm system. As well with the colder weather back I have been missing the remote starter I had in the 2000 HD. So today I purchased a combo Starter/Alarm system. Is an Avital 3300. As an extra cool factor I opted to also have the module for the front Windows installed. Not a cheap option but I figure what the hell. With taxes and all it came to a little over $800 CDN. I won’t be getting it installed until Nov 13th as they are very busy. Can’t wait.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your angle), the aftermarket rim companies are selling replicas for about 1600-1800 for a set of four. That brings the price down to max 450/wheel. I would imagine the stolen ones are worth maybe half that at most on the "open" market. That's a lot less than the 500+ a used one could sell for just 6 months ago... The rate of rim thefts has subsided dramatically in Houston at least as I suspect the second hand black market has plenty of inventory.
Still, can't be too careful. Make sure your alarm has a very sensitive tilt sensor. If they even begin to jack the vehicle up, it will set the alarm off...
The other thing I would do is make damn sure that when they install the siren that they put it lower in the engine compartment. Put it down and mount it down TIGHT so it can't be yanked loose. Then make sure the wires going to it are very, very hidden and inaccesable. The dumbasses that installed mine put it at the top of the engine bay with exposed wires. All you would have to do is pop the window, pop the hood and cut that wire and the alarm is silent.

I want to get the one with the little pager and if any of the shock sensors go off...it can page you and tell you which door is being tampered with. Sounds pretty cool to me
