Factory Tech Valve Body

a few questions

1. will it work on my 4R70 tranny?
2. how easy is it to intall? I know basics about cars/trucks, but not a pro at it
3. do i need the 4x4 tranny pan? or is that just a good thing to get anyway
4. how much
5. where to get it
6. do i need a chip with it
7. what exactly does it do?

thanks for help with all the questions. now that most of my appearance mods are done (most not all ) i want to hit up a few more performance things.

my understanding is that the ftvb actually acts more like a shift kit, allowing your tranny to handle more power and give firmer, yet tolerable shifts. It is better to have the deep tranny pan, as it helps to reduce the tranny temp. i've seen a couple online, but i dont remember the price offhand. i think lightning force performance had the whole packange for somewhere in between $300-$400, but don't quote me on that. hope this helps!

Harley#356,

1. No, only for the 4R100 tranny.

2. Very easy to install. Drop the pan and remove the 12 or so bolts that hold the valve body. Then bolt on the new one.

3. 4x4 isn't really needed. The "L" guys get them because it holds an extra quart or two of fluid. It also has a drain plug.

4. Last time I checked, it was $200.00.

5. Sal from www.powersurgeperformance.net has them.

6. The combo (chip & vb) may be alittle harsh on the 1-2 shift. Some deal with it, while others get their chip shifts detuned. I had one on my F250LD and both on the 1-2 shift made the truck buck somewhat. Way too harsh for me.

7. It provides quick instant shifts and less slippage. Some can bark the tires, while others just love the quicker response.

Hopefully, this gives you an idea.

By the holidays I should have a valve body for the 4R70W. Right now I only do the 4R100.

Alot of the guys are using the Transgo kits. But honestly, if Greg is coming out with a vb for the 4R70 trans., then the wait is definitely worth it.

Actually my 01 HD F150 has the 4R100. I remember when ordering I basically specified the 100. I've heard that several of the HD's have the 70's.

Theres a code on the door jamb, I don't remember which way it went though, e for one and u for the other. I'd have to look at my truck. One sure way is to count the tranny cover bolts. the 100 has like 21, the 70 has less, like 14 or 17. The 100 is a big-*** tranny.

i think the 70 has 12 or 14 bolts.

but yeah, ALL 02 and 03 HD's have the 100. MOST of the 00 and 01's have the 70, but there are a few who got the 100, but it was like a special order type thing.

i'm in no rush for the FTVB yet, probably do it in the spring, so hopefully by then greg will have it out for them

keep us posted over here when it comes out greg

It'll be announced in all the fashionalbe places, I'm sure. And the E code is the 4R100, U is the 4R70W, in 2000 it depends what state you live in, the eemission package was what determined the transmission. The 4R100 has 20 pan bolts, the 4R70w has I think 14, but I'm not sure.

It'll be around $300, the 4R70 main control is a lot more expensive than the accumulator on a 4R100.
