tire problem

Reciently I noticed some treads missing from my driverside front tire. I can actually see the second layer of rubber underneith (with the renforcing imbedded in it). The patch is about 2 sq inches completely gone and scary as he!!. I am afraid to even drive it to the Dealer (15 minutes on the freeway). I haven't driven it since I noticed the bad spot.

I think it happend when I hit a piece of plywood that ran out in front of me late one night. Do you think the warentee will cover it?

Have it looked at it can't hurt. I'm sure they can tell if it is a defect or a result of something you ran over. Just play dumb and tell them you noticed it and see what they say.

I lost a foglight after hitting a tire tread on my way home from work one day. Thought I would have to pay for it but it didn't do any damage to the valance. Took it to the dealer and just told them it broke off and they replaced it under warranty.

Good luck!

Isn't there a problem with the fog lights anyway?

I plan on playing dumb (it isn't hard for me to do). I think I am going to have them do the interior/exterior protection package ($300). All the talk about the leather cracking is scaring me. At least I will be covered for a number of years.

yeah, i'd say take it in and have it checked out and just play dumb like you didn't run over anything

i had my foglight bracket break also. didn't hit anything, just noticed it one day hanging down by the wires. i unplugged it and took it to the dealership, and since there was no damage to the truck, they replaced it under warranty, so now i have a spare fog

Isn't there a problem with the fog lights anyway?
nope...that's with the L's fogs...they are different than the HD's

i'd say you'd be better off, safer, and saving money if you passed on that dealer protection package. they are usually just a scam. You would definately be better off with using zaino, or another synthetic polish on the exterior (since thats basically what they use....a synthetic type stuff), and then for the interior, use vinylex or 303 on the plastics, and lexol, or zaino leather care stuff, or another quality brand on the leather stuff. It'll protect and care for the stuff better than their protection package. My seats are over 2 years old, and have 25K miles on them...about 1/4 of the time with rear passengers, 1/2 the time with front passenger, adn the back seat still looks brand new...the passenger seat looks just broken in (in a good way...very few wrinkles or creases) and the drivers seat looks really good for 25K miles. Only a little bit of wear. I've seen pics of new HD's with less miles than mine, who have gotten the dealer protection package, and their leather looks like its in a little worse conditon than mine or other people who do the cleaning and conditioning themselves.

just my .02$

Yeah, I agree with Harley#356 do not waste your money on the protection package!!

As I've said in other posts, my dad worked for Ford as a tech for many years and he did some of the 'so called' protection packages that the salesman sold. It was basically wax the truck, buy cans of Scotchguard and spray the interior and give the buyer a warranty while the dealer laughed all the way to the bank.

You would be better off using Zaino on the exterior and get Meguiars or some other quality leather conditioner/protectant and do it youself. You can buy a lot of Zaino for what they want to charge you for the protection package.

Yep, you're probably right. Hopefully he won't though.

Sent you an email with my address. I sent it in the first one but maybe it didn't come through for some reason

Thanks for the Tips BillP and '356, once again you are good sources for advice.

I have not spent the money on the protection package (so I will not, based on what you have said). I was kind of curious what they did, and what I couldn't.

I go in today to get my oil changed and hopefully my tire. I called Friday to see if they had any 20" goodyears in stock, but they said they might have to order one (I couldn't get a definate answer). This is my first time dealing with the Fairfield Green Valley Ford service Department, so I don't know how it is going to go.

I will report in later to give you all an update.

The guy at the service dept said it would take another 3-5 buisness days to get that particular tire, but it WILL be replaced for free. He also said I could take it to any other Goodyear tire service center and they could possibly do it right then. Now I have to find one nearby so I can set up an appointment.

The service guy was pretty cool, he has a Grey 02 HD same as mine, we also bought them around the same time.

Great news!! Glad to hear it's going to work out for you.

Sometimes you just got to 'play dumb'...easier for some of us than others I know

My experience has been different with this truck as far as 'warranty' items and just general treatment at the dealer.

It shouldn't be any different than someone who buys a stripped down Focus but I seem to get treated differently than when I've taken previous cars to the dealer for issues. Kind of like I have clout since I bought a 'high-end' vehicle or something.

Now I know others don't feel that way (ZoranC for one), but that has been my experience.

yeah, i kinda get special treatment at the dealer cuz they all like my HD still screw up stuff sometimes when they fix one thing LoL, but like my tailgate emblem, they put it on for free and removed the plain f150 one, and took off the dealer sticker and cleaned off all the adhesive, they repainted my door when it got keyed for free, even though it wasn't the best paint job, but better than a huge scratch. they let me order anything at dealer cost, i can order out of teh dealer's ford collection catalog, which means about 30% off and no shipping and it gets there alot quicker. maybe cuz the head guy out there also drives a 02 HD. i know its different at other places though.
