Another blown engine

A guy over on the other site blew his motor by running 15+ pounds of boost. In addition, he had a Diablo chip from RPM in TX. If I remember correctly, this is the same company that made the chip for Droptop. Be careful on your chip tuners fella's.

Yelp it was rpm outlet.

Plus the fella let someone else drive his truck when it went boom.

Sad to hear.

damn outnumbered. you scared teh crap outta me! i though you had blown your motor! i was gonna say...not the 3rd one in like a month!

but yeah, i read about that. isn't it being covered underwarranty though cuz his friend that blew it up works at a dealer? Lucky sob. LoL.

but like somebody said on that post over there, i'd stick with one of the 3 major tuners for chip burning...JLP, JDM, and PSP, just to be safe

i think he said he didn't have an a/f # before he did something? not totally sure,...post was so long i just skimmed it. lol

He said he had a 4lb upper and an 8lb lower. That plus 6lbs stock is too much. 18lbs! Thats the same as an L with a 10lb lower...

True... but drop-top's wasn't a boost issue--it was a tuning problem. Went way lean and BOOM. I still think that with a safe (read: fat) tune and a 6 or 8 lb lower you are safe.

They should change the name of that company because "rpm" is the last thing you want from them!

I bought a Diablochip from those guys and it was so lean that the freaken engine would go into emergency shut down at high rpm! I called Brett at RPM and he said "duu.....i don't know". These people are not programming anything-they just sell the crap!
RPM is the last place you will want to look for performance pats!!

Call JLP or Razors Edge if your serious!

Sorry about the engine drop top! That really sucks.

Droptop, go to www.fordtruckworld.com, and go to the HD forum.

Drop, I don't think an 8lb lower is the problem in your case. I think it was the tune. The guy over on "world" said he had an 8lb lower AND a 4lb upper. That's just too much boost. Even with a really good tune, that is too much for the stock motor IMHO...

You should not have gone kaboom. That was a chip issue.

I know for a fact that my misfortune was secondary to the chip and lack of a tune. I had 2-3000 miles on my previous chip with the 8 pounder with no problems. Now that I have an L upper, I need to sell my 8 and find a 4 or 6 pounder.

Drop,

Is the L upper a 2.80" diameter pulley? That is what I put on my truck and I was just wondering if it was the same as the L. If you can let me know. Also I'm running a 4# lower. Thanks.
