Module to shut off components automatically

Does anyone know of a module which shuts down modules being run off the DC outlets if the battery reaches a critical level which may cuase it to not start?

Also, was there not a battery with a flip switch in case you did drain the battery?

And, lastly, does anyone know of a module to convert DC to AC in our trucks?

Thanks in advance!

I think there is, so your quest to find one may actually have a happy ending.

Yes there is, or was, I think Sears had one. I havn't seen an advert for them in some time. They may still be out there. Like I said, check with Sears first.

It's called a power inverter. You can get them at Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam's Club, all over. Just make sure to get the size to fit the componet that you wish to power. Price, 40-120 bucks depending on manufactor and power requirments.

Hope this helps a bit at least.

It is for the cooler, I'd like to leave it on all day while I am at work and see if the truck still starts. That way my water will be cool.

Also, thinking of doing a gamecube thing in the back compartment. It actually fits in there. They sell a black one that would be nice.

No pics yet, I can't find my digital camera, hopefully soon!

sounds cool!

what kind of battery do you have? would an optima yellow top better suit your needs? i'm not sure cuz i dont know much about this type of thing, just making a suggestion. All i know is that they are really good batteries

i've already had my battery die once right in my driveway. Morning of a show and it was raining on top of it. truck was in the middle of the driveway also, so had to push it back and forth until it was at the side so i could pull the other truck next to it to jump start it. talk about a PITA with those foot wide dubs and no power steering!!
I think it was cuz the HD only goes on short trips and 1/2 of those are at night with the lights on, and the day before the dome light was on most of the day cuz i was working on the interior. i guess the battery hadn't had enough of a chance to charge up enough, cuz when it started, it barely went into the charge area, so it didn't die completely.

If you are going to run something all day with the truck off, a better bet may be a marine deep cycle battery.

You can probably find someplace under the truck to mount it, and simply attach it to your current charging system. when you get out, simply turn a lever to disconect the standard electrical/charging system from the marine battery-- leaving the marine battery all by itself to run your cooler.

Just a thought.

MADE UP MY MIND!

Thanks all for the ideas. I think I will go with the generator in the bed!

Just kidding, actually, I think I will go with a deep cycle marine battery underneath the truck somewhere.

I will connect it to the stock charging system and the ignition switch. When the keys are in the off position, everything will run off the second battery and the main one will be disconnected.

When the switch is in the on position, the main battery will be connected and used to turn the vehicle on, the second battery will then be recharged with the vehicle on.

I think this will be real trick but I'm going to have to get a hold of someone who has worked with something like this before.

Just a warning... if you have aftermarket audio/video in the truck you won't want the marine battery pushing it. A marine batter doesn't discharge fast enough for the draw/load of a high end system. Keep the A/V pulling from the standard battery.

Oh, BTW, somewhere in the L forum there was a post where the guy mounted batteries under his bed. You may want to try and search that out.

When your done, just give me credit for the mounting ideas haha.
