Your alarm & its features?
I decided to start this thread so that we may benifit from higher security.
Also, I would ask that if you have been broken into, that you never post how it was done.
Professionals will know how but we don't want kids who surf this site to get any ideas. Maybe we can cut down on vandalism aimed at our trucks.
Also, never buy anything stolen...and turn those people who try to sell you stolen items in.
So...what are the best alarms out there? What features should they have? How many power sources?
What about Lojack and those type of products?
What about to protect out stereos, DVD's, game systems, and our rims?
Do we all park them in the garages over night?

I wish! Some of us aren't lucky enough to be able to afford to build a garage
So she has to sit outside year round
also, another thing to add to your list of questions... what are average prices for the various alarm systems and how much more on average for special features like tilt and stuff.
thanks
I looked at a DEI alarm/remote start kit about 6 months ago for about $400 installed. I still would like to get one but would only use it when I'm out of town or if the truck is parked outside after dark.
At home, always garaged, all my vehicles are. Either in the garage or the work shop. At work, sits right outside my office, and I have a window office right in front. Always keep an eye on it.
When I bought my truck I had the factory Ford alarm put on. It adds a shock sensor. It works. Someone messes with it, it definately goes off.
As most say, if they really want it, a pro will get it. Don't know how they bypass the PATS though, but, I do have some piece of mind.

Anybody know if what my dealer said is true or not.
I was loading some heavy stuff at my bed and noticed that my alarm was armed, and never went off. The manual from Ford says it has a shock sensor.
He said that I should be able to "raise" the shock sensitivity on via the remote. I on the other hand can't find anything like that on the manual. Their service dept is only open weekdays and I don't want to leave the truck with them for the entire day just for an alarm adjustment.
Need some explanation.

Been looking for one similar to the BMW's: There is no shock sensor. Instead, there is a tilt sensor and infrared motion detector. Shock sensors go off when a POS drives by. The navigation system has a 4-digit code that you enter when you exit the car. Even if I give you my key, you cannot start it w/out the code. It is not possible to slim-jim the lock or open using the door handle from the inside (play joke on my wife when I get out before her - if I lock the car with the remote, she cannot get out, though there is a secret she doesn't know about to get out). The battery is in the trunk and alarm will sound if it notices voltage spikes. It is also impossible to lock your keys in the car, if the drivers door is open (can't push the lock button down manually or use the power lock button). I did manage to lock them in the trunk while getting some boxes out!
This was even at a BMW dealership!! They CANNOT get you back in. You must order a new laser cut key (10-14 days). Luckily, my wife was getting off work soon. The dealer couldn't drive me home because my house key was in the trunk as well.
Both cars are always garaged. I would prefer someone steal the entire vehicle than to take bits and pieces and cause damage while "getting in." It will never be the same vehicle.

Well,
hmm, noticing that one of our members has had his truck raped i'm now thinking of an alarm for the ole gal. as well as putting on the lock nuts (still in bag in glove box) owned the truck for 1 week now and i guess theft wasn't something i'd thought of yet. was going to use my left over $$ to get a bed cover, buuut i think a more aggressive alarm would be wiser. going to do some research/looking/pricing. if i find something noteworthy i'll post it up
