Ken, I have a Diablo and a Superchip. JL tuned the Diablo, Jim at JDM tuned the Superchip. I am right at 12lbs.

I have the Diablo.

And I see 14.5 lbs of boost. Will be about 15lbs when the weather gets below 85 degrees.

JL tuned Diablo, showing 12-12.5 lbs boost with the 8 lb lower... at density altitude of 5500 ft and 90-100 degree weather . We had a cold front move thru here yesterday and the temp dropped to about 70--truck ran like a raped ape... showed about 13 lbs!!! Anxious to see what it runs at Ennis this week (can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!).

Ken,
I KNEW you would ask for a comparison!!
In comparing the two, I will try to be as fair as I possibly can.

I have never run the Superchip at the track. The reason is because my Diablo makes more rwhp and rwt than the Superchip--370/462 and 362/440 respectively. In addition, there is also a noticeable seat of the pants difference. So I have to assume that the Diablo would give me better numbers at the track.

However! The Superchip has much friendlier driving characteristics around town. Basically, it feels like the stock program with extra power when you want it. Whereas the Diablo seems to pronounce the jerking when going down hills, the Superchip is nice and smooth. I realize that I could have the Superchip reburned to equal the power of the Diablo but I just haven't done it and I don't know that I will. Since I have two chips, I may just send one out for a full race program for the track and use the other around town.

Hope this helps.

thanks outnumbered.... good info. Do you have a factory tech valve body? That jerking is in the shift I assume. The JDM tuned superchip seems to work well with the factory tech VB. Don't know about the diablo. From what i have read and heard, the chip needs to not increase line pressure during the shift if you have a FT valve body as it will slam shift if not careful. My JDM seems to be fine. It jumps into OD pretty agressively, but no so much that it annoys me. (close though).

I had an 01 f150 supercrew before my HD, and tried both the diablo and the superchip in it. I felt like the diablo had more power but the superchip shifted *harder*. Interesting that it is opposite on this truck.

Guys are all running better times than me with the same or less mods, and I know I am running rich... I am going to get a new burn...

anybody else have the hard shifiting on their diablo?

Ken

My Diablo did shift extremely hard initially. However, I had the chip reburned to eliminate the hard shifting under part throttle and it works great now. JL does an excellent job of reburning and sending back out--does it very quickly! Although like I said, the JDM is very smooth throughout the entire operating range.

Are the people that are running faster than you using Diablo chips?

I guess that means the diablo had the line pressure increased quite a bit over stock. Reducing that line pressure is probably what they did.

I have seen numerous times (similar mods) that are better by a tenth or more than mine and they all seem to be using diablo. FWIW, I am running a JDM superchip and it is running very rich. I know I can send it back for a reburn if I get an A/F mix readout. Obviously richer is better than leaner so I'm not attacking JDM. I just noticed that my 13.8 at the 1/4 for my list of mods really isn't that impressive. The inside of my tailpipes are filthy and a mustang GT that I walked told me he could smell the fuel as I went by and could see the black smoke...

Power mods I have:

JDM 6LB Lower
Factory Tech Valve Body
JDM Flip Chip
AF1 Intake
Ported Throttle Body and Plenum

Houston Raceway Park is known for turning out good times because of good traction. I got a 14 and a couple of 13.8s and one other I can't remember. By the end of the night, it was in the very low 90s so I expected to get down into the 13.7 to 13.6 range if not a little better. So... I am going to try another setup just for grins.

Ken,
I can also offer this, my Diablo chip also has a richer air/fuel number than the Superchip, but it still makes more power. Currently the Diablo has an 11.5 while the Superchip has a 12.5. I have to assume that the additional power is coming from the timing. I have always heard that the Diablo is more aggressive. Again, when trying to compare these chips fairly, you have to take several things into consideration. JDM does not put as much timing in his basic programs, whereas JL does; there are obviously arguements for each side. I guess it ultimately comes down to what the consumer feels comfortable running.

I do however believe that if you were to order a chip from Diablo, and one from Superchips--both basic programs, the Diablo would yield greater HP and track numbers. The Diablo is just programmed more aggressively. But I don't think that it's something that the Superchip could not duplicate.

Ken,
I've been thinking about your comment on not being as fast as others. Try this for the sake of trying; unplug your boost bypass the next time your at the track. I know your not a big fan of this, but just do it at the track. Run one time with it connected, and one time disconnected. I bet you pick up 1-2 tenths. It may answer your question.

If ya want an aggressive JDM chip, ask him for the J69 program. It is truly awesome! Im turning 12.20's @ 111 with my listed mods and there's still lots of untapped power there with more mods!
Those Harley's are beautiful trucks!!!

I have a diablo chip and found it to be great. I have a guy at duratec sales@duratecperformance.com named Nickolas that has been great in re-tuning my chip for any mods I've done!
Hope this helps!
