Exclamation My Quest to Own an HD f-150

I'm going to try to get a whale of a deal on a 2002, it looks to me like there's still plenty around. I found one yesterday that I like and they INSTANTLY dropped to invoice. A month ago I couldn't get a different dealer to budge from their $3000 markup. I couldn't believe he came down that far that fast. In fact, he came right out and said they NEEDED to move that truck.

I like to deal and see how low I can get them to go, so I'm going to keep plugging.

Sent my X-plan application in today - just in case.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how far they'll go below invoice?

Thanks!!

John

P.S. Its # 10,XXXish.

don't think they'll go too far below it. Some dealers have just been high, other guys have gotten invoice right after the HD's came out, just depends on who you're dealin with i guess

anyway, post pics when you get the HD

Haven't had a chance to stop back in. I saw the 0% financing commercials on this weekend, but it doesn't apply to screws for 5 years. Hmmm....

Nothing from X-plan yet.

Things aren't looking good...

Just an FYI. They get paid 3% of the MSRP as their holdback. The whole nonsense about big volume dealers getting better prices is bullsh;t. EVERY dealer pays the SAME invoice and then they get 3% of MSRP as a kickback -- even if they sell at invoice. So, for example, assume they sell you a truck that has an MSRP of 38000. The get a check for $1140 regardless of the price they sell it to you at. In addition to that, they will get any amount over invoice they sell it for plus any factory to dealer incentives plus any kicker they get if they finance your vehicle through one of their providers such as ford motor credit.

To make a long story short, they might give you a percentage point off of the 3% if you are lucky and they are desperate, but don't expect to get much more than 2-300 off of invoice.

I would try this: "Mr Dealer, I have been to several different dealers and they are all offering invoice or below. I can get it anywhere, but I would prefer to get it here. I have my money in hand and I am ready to buy. How much below invoice are you going to go?"

There are six Harleys on the lot at a dealer in Panama City Florida. They've been there a while. I bet you could get one of these below invoice pretty easily.

Doesn't the 2002 owner's manual suggest Premium fuel?

they will probably sell. question is, will they offer an incentive? Their might be a factory to dealer incentive by year end to clear them out. You can hold on till then and maybe save anywhere from 500 to 2000 dollars. But... if they sell out and there are only a few left, you are hosed as the price will stabilize and the few remaining won't deal. If I were in your shoes, I would cut the best deal I can and start enjoying the truck...

I saw a dealer last weekend that was blowing out 20 of em @ $31500 here in CA. They need to move em as the 03's are coming in. Nows the time to get one.

I heard the 03's have the power sliding rear window. Im wondering how hard that would be to stuff into my Lightning. You guys got our motors, we want your luxury! LOL

Power sliders are nice, when I was looking for a sunroof for my S-10 (way back when) I used to play with them in the showrooms. I'm sure you can get one for your L.

$31,500 - that would be nice. I don't see it happening here though. No one has 20 on the lot, more like one or two.

Factory/dealer incentives would be good. Anyone know Bill Ford?? lol

Thanks.

John

X-Plan Pin # Arrives!!

Got my pin # today, now I have a backup if they won't come any lower. If memory serves me right, doesn't other incentives work with the X-plan???

Who knows someone on the inside that knows when the year-end clearance incentives are coming out??? lol

another bargaining point

Ford Blue Oval certified dealers get another 1.25% back in addition to the 3% holdback. Just something to keep in mind.

All other current factory incentives are good with X-plan as well.

Couple good sources of information for buying a new vehicle:

Good all-around website for new car information

you have to pay for the information here, but its a great package for first-time buyers especially
