1/4 mile times at Rockingham

Well I was all excited about going to a 1/4 mile track last night; all of my experience has been on the 1/8. The weather was supposed to drop down in to the 60's so I was hoping to pull off a 13.4 or 5. However I guess the tropical storm that's passing through had other plans. The temperature hovered at 77 and the humidity was aweful. They actually had to stop racing twice due to rain.

Anyway, I tried doing something a little different than what I normally do at Mooreseville (1/8 mile) and it may have hurt me. Because I have a fiberglass cover, fiberglass hood and additional stereo equip. I wanted to remove some weight so as to bring the weight closer to stock. So I removed the two rear seats and spare tire (I can't get the cover off by myself). The end result was alright, but tire spin became an issue. I'm not sure if it was from not having that additional weight on the rear end, or if it was the track itself. Rockingham is nice, but not being familar with the track or more importantly the tree, showed. Here is what I got:

R/T .920
60' 2.169
330 5.859
1/8 8.868
MPH 82.04
1000 11.480
1/4 13.701
MPH 101.16

Second Run:
R/T .912
60' 2.093
330' 5.826
1/8 8.865
MPH 81.35
1000 11.493
1/4 13.724
MPH 100.70

Ultimately I was a little dissappointed. I was really wanting that 13.5 since my buddy has run a 13.6 with less hp; however, he was lucky enough to have 68 degrees and virtually no humidity. Oh well, Fall is on it's way.

You'll get there man. Like you said, cooler weather will help out a lot. Your 60' times are pretty dang good if you had a problem with tire spin. Your 1/8 mile times are right on with your best, but your speed is up at the 1/8 from your best. Its the big end that is getting you. Fall is coming. The colder air will pull you down the track better. Don't worry, 13.60s/50s are in your future.

I have a few questions for you. Where did you get your chromed gas cap? All of the ones I have seen have been a brushed finish. Also, where did you mount your sub? I am still trying to come up with a game plan on how to install all of my stuff. Thanks for the info.

Good luck.

I call it a chromed door, but it is actually polished aluminum (I still think it's chrome). Anyway, I got it from procarparts.com for $49.95.

As for the sub, we gutted the center console and made a box to take up as much room as possible. The top of the box is carpeted, so when you open the lid to the console, there is a small area for storage. We also cut a 6" hole in the rear of the console to allow the bass to exit. It turned out really nice--looks and sound.

In regards to my 60" times, just to give you a comparison of tracks, my best 60 footer was 2.005 at Moorseville. So that's why I was thinking that it was either the track conditions at Rockingham--could have been a little damp due to the rain, or the weight that I removed. Try and Try again! Or just go ahead and move to the 8lb pulley!
