Question Good Deal on 02 HD in Texas?

Hey guys, can anyone give me the "heads up" on where to get a good deal on a 02 HD. I have to trade in my 01 Lightning on something with more room because my wife and I are expecting our first child. I would like to pay no more than $33K. Is this possible? Thanks for the info!

There are a couple in houston... Search the threads for good deals in Houston. Mark Twyman at Texan Ford will cut you a sweet deal. The number is 281 579 9100. I paid $500 over invoice and I am sure he would do it again, if not better. They are at the end of the model year, so he might do straight invoice. Make sure you tell him Ken gave you the number so he cuts you a deal...

I think the other dealer was tommie vaughn which is a great dealership, too. I don't know the guy, maybe someone can chime in. They were dong $200 over. You might mention that to Mark and see if he will do it.

Good luck

Ken

when I went home on leave to Tyler. Tyler Ford was selling them for 200.00 below dealer cost. That is what the sales manager told me. I wish I would have waited

Talk to Chris Lambert (512-644-1157) at Covert ford in Austin, I got mine 2 weeks ago for a lot less than that! Tell him Scott sent ya!

Unfortunately, they'll try to bone ya on the trade... you'd be much better off trying to sell the L first. They offered me around 16K on my 5k mile 2002 GT w/ mach 1000 etc.!!! (26.5k sticker! and I bought it from them!!!)

Oh well, at that rate, I can go double payments for a year and come out better than the trade-in! (scary!)

Oh, and the price on mine was WAYYYY below "invoice", Covert bought 24 of them at once, so their cost was considerably lower than usual!

I didn't realize the dealer got a volume discount from the manufacturer. You sure that's right. He may be selling them cheap to move them. 24 is a lot of HD trucks for one dealer.

scott u said yours was way below invoice, but what price r they using for invoice is it $32,191 (thats d price edmunds list as invoice with out the optional equipment), but obviously if u have th eoptional equipment add in the optional equipment invoice prices. assuming u have all the optional equipment (i'm not sure which ones u have) i got invoice to b $33,611

reason i am asking is cuz i'm in d market fo r1 as well.

invoice msrp true value
Base Price $31,451 $35,995 $35,995
Destination Charge $740 $740 $740
Total
(w/o Options) $32,191 $36,735 $36,735

91P 6-Disc CD changer $251 $295 $295
90H Heated Front Seats $208 $245 $245
43M Moonroof $688 $810 $809
63E Pick-up Bed Extender $166 $195 $195

Well, I didn't post them because I couldn't remember the exact #s, I got all options but heated seats and moonroof. It was around 31,700 (~34K out-the-door, tt&l, etc.) The invoice price they used with options was right around 33. I'll post the exact #s once I dig out the paperwork.

It was explained to me that when a dealer takes an unusually large # of a certain vehicle, the manufacturer gives them like a 3% kickback on each one, so technically, the dealership pays invoice on the vehicle, but then gets a check handed right back to them as a kick-back. That may/may not be the case, but that's how it was explained to me.

even the engine block heater?
just curious, alot of guys say they got ALL the options, just wondering if alot of them came with the heater anyway, or if they didn't know there are 6 options total.

Got my 02 just last week for $32,363 which I was told this was the "D" plan price, it came with the following options:

Heated seats
Moonroof
Sliding rear window
6 Disc changer

Sticker (MSRP) was 38,210 total
the cool part was that I didnt have to pay any sales tax, since my trade ins were valued at about the same price as the 02HD..Its kinda confusing but the told me thats how it worked out, and I didnt argue.

So I would say if you can get one for $33k or less..its a good deal

Anybody know the "X" plan price

I just checked the Ford website and I couldnt see where the block heater was a option for the 02's ?? maybe its different in other parts of the country

one other thing....try and find out if the truck is a dealer trade, if so..they wont "D" plan it since they lose the holdback, and from the figures I had I think the holdback was somewhere around $1500. Dont know if the dealer will tell you this info straight out, but look at the window sticker in the very lower left hand corner and make sure the vehicle was sold to the same place you are shopping at, otherwise its a dealer trade and the price will be more like $33.7k
Hope this helps

mine doesn't have it either, but i know it IS available IF you wanted one.

in 00 they only had 3 options....slider, 6 disc, and block heater. i have the 1st two, but i didn't have a choice anyway. bought it off the center of the showroom floor. Only one they ever got, and one of the few in south jersey.
