Nos

I'm considering a NOS 50-75hp kit for my 02 Harley. Current mods are 3# top 4# bottom, chip etc.. Anyone done it?

Also would like to know how many 1/4 mile passes you get to one NOS bottle, how much does it cost to refill the bottle and does the bottle have to be sent away to refill?

Retread...don't you think you are already pushing enough boost to be putting extra strain on your internals?

I agree with ricekicker. To each their own, but wouldn't you rather enjoy driving your truck around, rather than rebuilding your motor for a couple of 12 second passes? I agree that faster is better, but there is a limit.

bottles are for babies, real men get blown!
no replacement for displacement

just a couple bumper stickers i have seen. Anyway, i say if your gonna race your HD all the time, max out the truck with performance mods 1st, and then when you get into the 12's that way, and want more, use nos as a last resort. but thats just my .02$
a 50 hp kit isn't as hard as a 150 hp nos kit though at least, so good that your not trying to push that.

good luck with it all and let us know how it turns out.

...actually, a little nitrous can be good for a blown engine. I would stay between 30-50 hp. The intercooling effect of the nitrous can actually help your engine live longer under high-boost, aggressively tuned, racing conditions. Just make sure and have a custom nitrous program burned for your application--more fuel, less timing. Good luck!

i though the bottom end on the 5.4 was real strong i have seen a lot of cars in mags useing the nav. 5.4 and making 1200 + hp i think in 5.0 mag they have one with stock heads and stock rods and crank what do you thank the limits are on a 5.4 i know a 5.0 is around 500-600 hp

the bottom end is pretty strong. you just have to make sure you have enough fuel..... so you dont detonate. i think the first thing to go woulf be the pistons. but.....

Slingshot is right! A little NOS is good for a super charged engine. But what system is best for the HD application? The wet system is the only type system that I have used, but I keep hearing about the dry system. I have used a fogger system (wet direct port) on a 427 back when I was draggin all the time and it was the cat's ***. I'm looking for someone with NOS/5.4 experience in extracting the most power from the SC.

By the way, Harley 356 horsepower is what I'm talking about and it does not matter how but HOW MUCH!

Slingshot is right. I little nitrous is good for the blown motors.
Nitrous Express is the only kit I would use for our setup.
I would stay between 50-75 on your setup using a GOOD chip program. The weak link in the motors are the RODS. Everything else is pretty strong.

retread71--Which truck do you drive? I was in Midland Saturday and saw a gorgeous (so clean it made me want to go home and detail mine ) '00 HD in the Circuit City parking lot. I live in Big Spring BTW... we need to hook up sometime.

Slingshot,

My truck is a low black 02 HD with heavy window tint and an orange Harley-Davidson bar & shield in the rear window. Yeah, very clean but it's an 02 model.

Anyway, do you get over to Midland often? I would like to check your truck out. I'm in Big Spring every once and awhile over at the HD shop. Ever go to Penwell and run your truck?

Ricekicker- enough boost that's the deal. Discharge temps are lower with NOS so higher levels of boost can be run. I think my setup (3#Top 4#Lower) would benifit greatly. Flip the chip cruisen or bruisen.
