I'm posting this in the HD forum since I feel that members here could relate to the unique interior of the HD.

I will be replacing the OEM CD changer in the center console with my Alpine changer from my old truck. I tried searching for this one but couldn't find any info on it.

I would want to know how can you route the signal cable from the head-unit to the changer inside the center console.

I will also be putting my Alpine HU in and would like to now how to route the signal cable to an amp located under the driver's seat.

I am planning to do all the install myself to save some cash. A pro shop did my previous truck and would rather save the install fees for other mods. Any tips on achieving this would be greatly appreciated.

Change your HU to one that plays MP3 and you will never need a changer again.

I can play the same CD for a week and not hear the same song twice.

 

I had the stock 6 disc in the console and replaced it with a 10 disc Sony ES to go with my old ES MD head unit. I routed the cable under the carpet along the tranny hump and through the hole for the stock changer. BTW the console must go, or at least that's the way I did it. It wasn't a problem, 4 large metric nuts and it's off (use deep sockets).

 

Well it took me about 2 1/2 hours total time for me to get my Alpine 7893 and Alpine CHA-S634 changer in. That's because I took my time and I had to run and get the OEM radio removal clips from Kragen since all my coat hangers are all plastic

Total time could have been 1 hour if didn't forget to set my changer to work on the "vertical" position.

Here's the skinny:
1. Take your negative battery connection off. Just to be safe.
2. Take a Philips screwdriver and remove the screws just in front of the console latch, take the rubber mat for the space where the plaque is and remove that screw as well.
3. Take a very small screwdriver or use your fingers to pry the console sides beginning from the front part, do not pull all the way just about 1/2inch until all the sides are equally separated.
4. Pull forward and up and it will come off.
5. Route your cable from the back of your HU to the console location, just drop it in and it will snake its way down so you can pull it from the front of the console and under the dash.
6. Using a socket wrench remove the two nuts that retain the CD changer housing cover on the bottom inside of the console.
7. Pull straight up and off comes the changer cover.
8. There will be two screws on the right top side of the console and you have to use a Philips to take them out.
9. Detach the stock CD harness. Take out the OEM changer.
10. Remove the bolts that hold the OEM changer and install your aftermarket changer.
11. Plug the harness in and the rest of the re-installation process is the reverse of the above mentioned steps.

Make sure you set your changer's spring setting to "vertical" position, or your changer will skip. Also take your stock CD magazine out FIRST before you start the install.
